This results in the IP (alias) that is being assigned to the jail to be automatically created and destroyed. But, when you (by mistake or on purpose) assign the host's primary IP address to the jail, and you do not have any aliases configured on the interface, this results in the interface going down. This is pretty dangerous, so I would suggest removing the "interface" option from the example. Using the primary IP address for jails is not good practice, but it is legal to do so without using the "automatic IP alias" functionality of jail(8). When you do have aliases set on the interface before the jail starts, the interface does not go down, so it might be a bug in the jail(8) command. The docs on setting up openldap: https://www.freebsd.org/doc/en/articles/ldap-auth/ldap.html It says to add the following to sldap.conf: security ssf=128 TLSCertificateFile /path/to/your/cert.crt TLSCertificateKeyFile /path/to/your/cert.key TLSCACertificateFile /path/to/your/cacert.crt Then later on the page it gives the openssl commands to create cert.crt, cert.csr, and cert.key. Note - the openssl commands given do NOT create a "cacert.crt". However, the document does mention that "cert.crt and cacert.crt are the same file". Following the instructions verbatim will lead to no cacert.crt file existing and with the suggested additions to slapd.conf above, slapd will fail to start with no errors given. I was able to find the error by running: /usr/local/libexec/slapd -d -1 -u ldap -g ldap And the output at the very end suggests it can't find "cacert.crt". To solve the problem I just changed the suggested additions to slapd.conf on the last line (TLSCACertificateFile to be /path/to/your/cert.crt instead of /path/to/your/cacert.crt). I'm not sure if the public would be better served by changing the suggested lines (last line, for TLSCA.) as I did, or by adding a note that you need to copy cert.crt to cacert.crt. Whichever would be "more correct". Thanks a *HUGE* amount for all the work you folks do on the handbook/documentation. It is all very much appreciated! The english or the > german one? > > With best gerade, boser > Hello Martin, thank you for trying FreeBSD. The problem you are describing is based on the fact that the german handbook translation hasn't caught up the english (reference) handbook. That is why there is a note there saying that you should check the english handbook first. There are a few chapters in the german handbook that are more or less in sync with their english counterparts. For these, the note is removed. For those chapters where we simply haven't been able to catch up, you should refer to the english handbook and follow all the instructions there. The reason for the lack of up-to-date german translations is mostly a manpower problem. We need more volunteers to translate the most important handbook chapters into german (and other languages as well), so that people can read the instructions in their native language. Investigation showed that, notwithstanding updates via svn to the contents of the pgpkeys directory, the keyring.xml, and hence the pgpkeyring.txt file, were not being built. The attached patch adds dependencies to trigger the building of those targets when they already exist and when dependencies have been updated. Without the dependencies, existing targets were always up-to-date. I update my doc tree daily via svn and then build. I don't start fresh every day because I only want to build the updates and not waste time building the whole site daily. Thank you to all who maintain the project's documentation and web site! -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.
