About a week ago I upgraded to 9.3-RELEASE and = since then VirtualBox refuses to run and crashes my server as soon as I = start a VM. I'm using version 4.3.12 coming from the pkg repository. All my = packages are up to date. I'm unable to find any information about the = crash I face as my server/host is rebooting a few seconds after I try to = launch any VM. I usually launch the VM with the VBoxHeadless utility, but if I use = VirtualBox through an ssh X11 session, the behavior is the same = (although I can see and use the VirtualBox window before launching any = VM). I'm unsure where to look for any issues in my configuration. I've even = re-installed my server only using binary packages to see if I hadn't a = problematic old kernel module or library installed, but that didn't = change anything. Is the VirtualBox binary package known to be broken? = Would trying to compile the VirtualBox port help here? Should I be = using the new pkg repository for NEW_X_ORG even though my FreeBSD server = is not running any X session itself? Any help would be much appreciated here as I'm getting lost at what to = try. Thanks, Antoine. All my packages are up to date. I'm unable to find any information about the crash I face as my server/host is rebooting a few seconds after I try to launch any VM. Are you also using virtualbox-ose-kmod from the pkg repository? If so, try building the port for that (you can still use pkg for virtualbox-ose). At least that fixed the same problem for me - and I guess it is obvious in hindsight that the repository build of the kernel module won't be in sync with the RELEASE kernel. --Per From owner-freebsd-emulation@FreeBSD.ORG Mon Aug 18 08:00:19 2014 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-emulation@FreeBSD.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::19:1]) (using TLSv1 with cipher ADH-AES256-SHA (256/256 bits)) (No client certificate requested) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id E470F48A for ; Mon, 18 Aug 2014 08:00:19 +0000 (UTC) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org (kenobi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::16:76]) (using TLSv1 with cipher DHE-RSA-AES256-SHA (256/256 bits)) (Client did not present a certificate) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id BB01037A2 for ; Mon, 18 Aug 2014 08:00:19 +0000 (UTC) Received: from bugs.freebsd.org ([127.0.1.118]) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.14.9/8.14.9) with ESMTP id s7I80JEA089816 for ; Mon, 18 Aug 2014 08:00:19 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Message-Id: <201408180800.s7I80JEA089816@kenobi.freebsd.org> From: bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org To: freebsd-emulation@FreeBSD.org Subject: [Bugzilla] Commit Needs MFC MIME-Version: 1.0 X-Bugzilla-Type: whine X-Bugzilla-URL: https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/ Auto-Submitted: auto-generated Date: Mon, 18 Aug 2014 08:00:19 +0000 Content-Type: text/plain X-Content-Filtered-By: Mailman/MimeDel 2.1.18-1 X-BeenThere: freebsd-emulation@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.18-1 Precedence: list List-Id: Development of Emulators of other operating systems List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Mon, 18 Aug 2014 08:00:20 -0000 Hi, You have a bug in the "Needs MFC" state which has not been touched in 7 or more days. Thanks, that solved it indeed! I had tried compiling the modules a few days ago, but my kernel source = files were still the ones from 9.2 I guess. Mixing binary and locally = compiled packages requires a bit more maintenance. Antoine. I've submitted a patch for review that adds the ppoll syscall in the linuxulator (https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=3D192842) an= d=20 enables linux pulseaudio-utils to play wav files from the command line. However some futex locking issues doesn't allow Skype (or flashplugin in a browser) to work with is properly. So I'm investigating the next two possible things that need fixing to solve the pulseaudio thing properly. I've also added alsa-libs alsa-utils and alsa-plugins-oss ports, and they seem to work okay with flashplugin and nspluginwrapper through on firefox. So that's sorted :) Hopefuly the pulseaudio fix won't take that long. I'll send an update when I have something useable to share! In many cases these ports are failing to compile on some subset of the FreeBSD build environments. The most common problem is that recent versions of -CURRENT include gcc4.2, which is much stricter than older versions. The next most common problem is that compiles succeed on the i386 architecture (e.g. the common Intel PC), but fail on one or more of the other architectures due to assumptions about things such as size of various types, byte-alignment issues, and so forth. In occasional cases we see that the same port may have different errors in different build environments. The script that runs on the build cluster uses heuristics to try to 'guess' the error type to help you isolate problems, but it is only a rough guide. One more note: on occasion, there are transient build errors seen on the build farm. Unfortunately, there is not yet any way for this algorithm to tell the difference (humans are much, much better at this kind of thing.) The errors are listed below. In the case where the same problem exists on more than one build environment, the URL points to the latest errorlog for that type. (By 'build environment' here we mean 'combination of 7.x/8.x/9.x/-current with target architecture'.) (Note: the dates are included to help you to gauge whether or not the error still applies to the latest version. The program that generates this report is not yet able to determine this automatically.) portname: sysutils/linux-nero broken because: Unfetchable build errors: http://beefy2.isc.freebsd.org/bulk/93amd64-RELENG_9_3/latest/logs/errors/linux-nero-4.0.0.0_2.log overview: http://portsmon.FreeBSD.org/portoverview.py?category=sysutils&portname=linux-nero If these errors are ones that you are already aware of, please accept our apologies and ignore this message. On the other hand, if you no longer wish to maintain this port (or ports), please reply with a message stating that, and accept our thanks for your efforts in the past. Every effort has been made to make sure that these error reports really do correspond to a port that you maintain. However, due to the fact that this is an automated process, it may indeed generate false matches. If one of these errors fits that description, please forward this email to the author of this software, Mark Linimon , so that he can attempt to fix the problem in the future.
