What'd suit me is his nice T420 refurb he bought from the same site months earlier for $350 :) but I'm trying to figure out if this X200 is worth investing in. It was advertised with no OS (fine) but with no battery or power supply (not so fine - Lenovo want AU$174 for a PS and 6-cell battery, and then I won't know if it even boots for maybe a fortnight.) I grabbed the service manual from the Lenovo site but need the complete model and serial numbers of course, and couldn't find them underneath. My son mailed me the invoice, which says it's a model 7455 (true by one label) -33M (yes an Oz model), but the serial number supplied on the invoice gives 'error unknown' on the Lenovo parts page. "Lenovo ThinkPad X200 Notebook, Black Intel Core2 Duo Processor P8600 (2.40 GHz) 2GB DDR3 Memory No Optical Drive 12.1" WXGA (1280x800) LED Backlit Display 64GB Solid State Drive Integrated Intel GMA 4500MHD Graphics High Definition Audio Integrated Gigabit Ethernet Wireless 802.11 (a/g/n) LAN Webcam Media Card Reader, Fingerprint Reader 1x VGA, 3x USB Ports, 1x RJ-45, 1x RJ-11 No Battery, No AC Adapter and Power Cable No OS, HDD Formatted, Operation System and Application & Drivers media not included. . (P/N: 745533M) (SN:xxxxxx-xx) (xxxxxx-xx)" The service manual says -33x models come with CCFL not LED backlight and a SATA HDD of various sizes, not the 64GB SSD that is installed. I might be worrying unduly, but removel of the S/N label and a dodgy serial number on the invoice feels a bit sus to me, and might be sufficient basis for a refund, though my son's not bothered. Lars: > Oh, and FreeBSD just runs very fine on the X200. It's worth buying a > battery and AC adaptor. :) Perhaps you're convincing me to take the punt :) Given the above specs, should it run fine on 9.2 or stable/9? Try booting FreeBSD on it and see if the specs are true. There are fake X200 around with an Atom CPU inside: http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=3Dde&sl=3Dzh-CN&tl=3Den&u=3Dhttp%3= A%2F%2Fwww.shanzhaiben.com%2F37%2Fn-4837.html&sandbox=3D1 >=20 > Lars: >=20 > > Oh, and FreeBSD just runs very fine on the X200. Suspend and resume 100% working? I'm running CURRENT on the X200 since I own it. I think I started with 9-CURRENT on it. Suspend/Resume works pretty good. After the second resume the USB ports are dead, but that can be fixed: http://unethicalblogger.com/2013/12/03/scratchiest-neckbeard-freebsd-x200.h= tml (which didn't work for me, but the USB 3.0 PCIe card works after resuming, so I don't care). So, I'm very happy with the notebook. :) --SLk8PSyqxe/ugcCT Content-Type: application/pgp-signature -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v2.0.22 (FreeBSD) iKYEARECAGYFAlL9IIlfFIAAAAAALgAoaXNzdWVyLWZwckBub3RhdGlvbnMub3Bl bnBncC5maWZ0aGhvcnNlbWFuLm5ldDE3RkMwOEUxNUUwOUJEMjE0ODlFMjA1MDI5 Q0U3NURBQzBGNzY5RjgACgkQKc512sD3afgwCACeK2NmGGUH1svx2Fvzgr4vtWzF kf0AoIYOuPMp1axB43v7QQ6Tbk0dYhqE =YHI+ -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- --SLk8PSyqxe/ugcCT--
