In many cases these ports are failing to compile on some subset of the FreeBSD build environments. The most common problem is that recent versions of -CURRENT include gcc4.2, which is much stricter than older versions. The next most common problem is that compiles succeed on the i386 architecture (e.g. the common Intel PC), but fail on one or more of the other architectures due to assumptions about things such as size of various types, byte-alignment issues, and so forth. In occasional cases we see that the same port may have different errors in different build environments. The script that runs on the build cluster uses heuristics to try to 'guess' the error type to help you isolate problems, but it is only a rough guide. One more note: on occasion, there are transient build errors seen on the build farm. Unfortunately, there is not yet any way for this algorithm to tell the difference (humans are much, much better at this kind of thing.) The errors are listed below. In the case where the same problem exists on more than one build environment, the URL points to the latest errorlog for that type. (By 'build environment' here we mean 'combination of 7.x/8.x/9.x/-current with target architecture'.) (Note: the dates are included to help you to gauge whether or not the error still applies to the latest version. The program that generates this report is not yet able to determine this automatically.) portname: multimedia/subtitleeditor broken because: Does not compile on FreeBSD 10.0 and later build errors: none. overview: http://portsmon.FreeBSD.org/portoverview.py?category=multimedia&portname=subtitleeditor If these errors are ones that you are already aware of, please accept our apologies and ignore this message. On the other hand, if you no longer wish to maintain this port (or ports), please reply with a message stating that, and accept our thanks for your efforts in the past. Every effort has been made to make sure that these error reports really do correspond to a port that you maintain. However, due to the fact that this is an automated process, it may indeed generate false matches. If one of these errors fits that description, please forward this email to the author of this software, Mark Linimon , so that he can attempt to fix the problem in the future. Thanks for your efforts to help improve FreeBSD. I'm using a Logitech QuickCam. It was working just fine with webcamd, but after an upgrade to a FreeBSD 10.x (starting at least from 10.0-RC5) vga video mode isn't working for some reason, so I have to use smaller video modes. When I launch the pwcview -s vga it says: Webcam set to: 640x480 (vga) at 5 fps libv4l2: error dequeuing buf: Device not configured Error reading from webcam: Device not configured cif and smaller modes are working fine. I'm using last webcamd and dependent ports versions. My FreeBSD version is: FreeBSD 10.1-BETA1 #0 r271608: Is there any way to get back vga mode ? I have also a second question - I noticed there are two ports, multimedia/pwcbsd and multimedia/pwcview. I'm using the second one. If I try the first one, which contains also a kernel module, the pwcview from it isn't working at all - regardless of the pwc module loaded. What is the multimedia/pwcbsd port for ? Thanks. Eugene. I'd appreciate if you checked out this tarball (it's a drop-in replacement for multimedia/{mplayer|mencoder}) and let me know about any problems that it introduces for you, and, if possible, a fix for them. In a nutshell, this has changed compared to the current ports tree version of the ports: - Upstream versions of mplayer and ffmpeg as of 2014-12-23 - Remove the following OPTIONS: - MEMALIGN (now used by default where supported) - PROFILE (shaky, unreliable, rarely used, nigh unsupportable) - DIRAC (codec support only via libschroedinger) - Default-depends on external libdvdnav (mplayer no longer bundles internal dvd support libraries) - Simplify CFLAGS handling - Remove -fomit-frame-pointer from CFLAGS (we have apparently a fair number of CPUs out there which can't run code compiled with this option reliably) I have test-built several OPTIONS permutations (default, all, none, some personal favourites) on 8.4 (i386), 9.3 (i386) and 10.1 (i386, amd64, armv6), so it should have evolved far enough for broader testing. Please, go ahead! I tried to launch webcamd with "-m hid-core.debug=1 -m videobuf-core.debug=1 -m videobuf2-core.debug=1 -m usbvision-core.core_debug=1 -m linux_usb.min_bufsize=512", no new debug messages were shown. Could you please point me to the direction where I can understand which ones to use ? I found only one pwc-related knob, but it's about the powersave. I've also found a thread on a russian community board (unfortunately, in russian) with similar issue (and the author didn't get any luck) which made me realize that may be it's not the upgrade to 10.x that left me without vga mode, but the upgrade from i386 to amd64, which I remember I have done too, around the point where vga stopped to work. See here: > https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=185560 The track in the PR does not contain clean summary, and I have troubles making the conclusion from the vague info there. I very much doubt that the problem is a CPU bug, it would be very high-profile event and would be discovered much earlier then now, esp. for Pentium IV class machines. It seems that everything makes circles around stack alignment and SSE. At least, this is strongly suggested by references to OCFLAGS and the fact that -fomit-frame-pointer implicitely changes stack alignment. SIGBUS is somewhat consistent with this observation. This might be a compiler bug (what compiler ? I cannot find a conclusive answer in the PR), or more likely, it is a bug in inline assembler code, which probably makes unwarranted assumptions about stack alignment. Reporters must show the disassembly of the failed instruction and register dump to confirm or deny my theory. You might want to play with the -mstackrealign compiler option. Sounds sensible to me. Thanks for taking a look. > This might be a compiler bug (what compiler ? Presumably the reporters used the default compiler for the mplayer port, which is clang on 9.x and 10.x on i386 and amd64. The mplayer code (it bundles ffmpeg) assumes various alignments here and there, including 16 byte alignment in various handcrafted SSE code snippets. Let's try the stackrealign option and observe the results. I'll update the PR accordingly.
