It appears on CURRENT since then and especially on systems newly installed. I run also two other systems with CURRENT which have been "smoothly" migrated over the past two years to the most recent CURRENT without any problems in updating or compiling this port. That is what confuses me and it might be due to a compiler bug or architectural discrepancy on the boxes. What I did so far: I rebuilt all depending ports for kBuild without any optimisations and did so also for emulators/virtualbox-ose, via "portmaster -f". The problem has also been reported on Linux once, but without any solutions, since the Linux distributions distribute binary packages. It seems that it will not boot reliably if I allocate more than 2 cpu's. When I set the cpu count to 4, sometimes it does not start at all, but freezes during boot (the ubuntu screen with the rotating dots). I have booted it with 2 processors, and installed vbox tools, but still, when I increase the number of cpu's past 2 it will not boot. any ideas? I have a 6 core Dell precision 7810. If hyperthreading is enabled (so FreeBSD apparently thinks I have 12 cores), and VMs running under VirtualBox are so slow as to be totally unusable. If I disable hyperthreading, VMs are still extremely slow but usable in case of emergency. My previous desktop only had 2 cores, but I had no issues with VMs. Someone else (ohartman@zedat.fu-berlin.de, I think) mentioned that he'd seen the same issue. - Richard On 10/26/15 13:54, Christer Solskogen wrote: > Hi! > > I wrote this yesterday without any response so far: > https://forums.freebsd.org/threads/poor-performance-with-virtualbox-ose.53722/ > > > Short story.
