Here's what I have in a wpa_supplicant.conf file: ap_scan=2 network={ ssid="CACHEBOY_IBSS_ENCRYPT" psk="xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx" # set ibss mode=1 proto=WPA key_mgmt=WPA-NONE pairwise=NONE group=CCMP } Now, I tested this with ath(4) and fixed a couple of things that I actually broke a few months ago (beacon filter handling.) There are some suboptimal channel configuration configuration issues in how it selects a channel and 11n channel configuration. But, the good news is that we now do /some/ kind of encrypted IBSS. Next up is WPA-RSN encryption for IBSS, which is more along the lines of what linux supports these days. Andriy is apparently looking into the missing pieces of this. I'm going to see if urtwn + IBSS encryption interoperates with ath + IBSS encryption and report back to the list. For the past year, I have been working with a team of ~20 folks across the world on "internet balloons". Essentially a DIY version of Google Project Loon. The idea is to provide commercial internet service on a permanent basis for ~5.00 per user per month. It will be open source/open access/DIY. We've settled on using FreeBSD due to it's TDMA and 802.11s support. All around this seems to be the most mature / turn key implementation readily available. Payload is essentially a solved problem at this point. I have a Rasberry Pi 2 (or whatever the latest model with the 4 usb ports is) and a GPS HAT from Adafruit. This gives me a FreeBSD network node and highly accurate GPS timing. So far so good. I would like to know what the best USB Wifi dongle to get. I have tried to piece it together from the FreeBSD Wifi wiki and various PDFs I've found, but wanted to do a quick ping to the hive mind for the most up to date recommendations. Obviously one with an external antenna connector. :) I've got various Alfa USB cards lying around, some rt link stuff and other random dongles. I'd like to shortcut the typical trial/error process if there is a magic unicorn USB dongle option. It seems the intersection of TDMA + 802.11s + USB makes the selection somewhat.... interesting. Feel free to point me at the manual and say RTFM if that's the best path. Thanks all! It wasn't that much work. To use it: * add ATH_ENABLE_RADIOTAP_VENDOR_EXT, ATH_DIAGAPI to your kernel config and rebuild. I'd love to have this radiotap vendor data be in by default by tcpdump doesn't decode radiotap vendor data correctly yet and doesn't skip over it :( * compile athspectral (tools/ath/ath); to see it just 'athspectral enable_on_reset 1' * sysctl dev.ath.0.monpass=0xffff (so it passes up all PHY error frames up to the stack via radiotap - spectral scan data and radar reports are PHY errors with a payload); * ifconfig wlanX create wlandev ath0 ssid foo123 up (so it stays up and continuously scans, but hopefully never finds the ssid 'foo123'); * clone github.com/erikarn/ath_radar_stuff, build, and run 'fft_eval ar9280 if wlanX' (where 'wlanX' is the wlan interface); * watch the pretty data -adrian From owner-freebsd-wireless@freebsd.org Thu Dec 3 01:56:18 2015 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-wireless@mailman.ysv.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::19:1]) by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 743A5A3F66D for ; Thu, 3 Dec 2015 01:56:18 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from adrian.chadd@gmail.com) Received: from mail-ig0-x22e.google.com (mail-ig0-x22e.google.com [IPv6:2607:f8b0:4001:c05::22e]) (using TLSv1.2 with cipher ECDHE-RSA-AES128-GCM-SHA256 (128/128 bits)) (Client CN "smtp.gmail.com", Issuer "Google Internet Authority G2" (verified OK)) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 434A41ADC for ; Thu, 3 Dec 2015 01:56:18 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from adrian.chadd@gmail.com) Received: by igcmv3 with SMTP id mv3so3301832igc.0 for ; Wed, 02 Dec 2015 17:56:17 -0800 (PST) DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=gmail.com; s=20120113; h=mime-version:in-reply-to:references:date:message-id:subject:from:to :cc:content-type; bh=o/dWMskF0ZSqBZDlw1EbrCg6Jl9MiiF/a82HbYo8yAo=; b=ZKuWfVNsmrQvT75BaNbUaKgA8XB7Jk+si4pJhOWlamtNTtpSaij+Da+cGevL3lLk4F ekunhyMOaE11iU+IBEjccDcWHlNE7YvUUbGQg2mVfpN4quNTvwMJzdCX8/ozqNGVlJuQ wVyS4Y/LB+OnhBFzd5fjR7VGmEGhXe6DTj5T8z1H81G1TkErXeDLyZHvcTVncWtj5nZx 0llw4/9XboNcdVQYO3NBIg7SamJpnhfe2QQWCgBE1KYbxsSuth22Gbyuolr/5kAU3DX0 GxHlH1XwpgfuuhU/ZdnGJSMs/Sh7rsu8pDDyyJ0S/qeWKBUjxj3b+eIJCs0Zx9cr2fMN WXgQ== MIME-Version: 1.0 X-Received: by 10.50.136.226 with SMTP id qd2mr6942101igb.37.1449107777653; Wed, 02 Dec 2015 17:56:17 -0800 (PST) Received: by 10.36.217.196 with HTTP; Wed, 2 Dec 2015 17:56:17 -0800 (PST) In-Reply-To: <6f221035529b503f774d6b0e82ff13e5@thefnf.org> References: <6f221035529b503f774d6b0e82ff13e5@thefnf.org> Date: Wed, 2 Dec 2015 17:56:17 -0800 Message-ID: Subject: Re: TDMA at 65k feet on a ras pi 2 From: Adrian Chadd To: Charles Wyble Cc: "freebsd-wireless@freebsd.org" Content-Type: text/plain; charset=UTF-8 X-BeenThere: freebsd-wireless@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.20 Precedence: list List-Id: "Discussions of 802.11 stack, tools device driver development." The TDMA support currently only works on PCI/PCIe ath devices. It doesn't currently work with the 802.11s implementation - you can only use one or the other. In theory the TDMA stuff could be made to work on the AR9271/AR7010 based atheros USB parts, but I or someone else would first have to bring up the USB support. The firmware for those parts is open so it wouldn't take that much to do. -adrian From owner-freebsd-wireless@freebsd.org Thu Dec 3 03:11:54 2015 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-wireless@mailman.ysv.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::19:1]) by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 44F90A4053F for ; Thu, 3 Dec 2015 03:11:54 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from swills@FreeBSD.org) Received: from mouf.net (mouf.net [IPv6:2607:fc50:0:4400:216:3eff:fe69:33b3]) (using TLSv1 with cipher DHE-RSA-AES256-SHA (256/256 bits)) (Client CN "mouf.net", Issuer "mouf.net" (not verified)) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 02EEF1C3E; Thu, 3 Dec 2015 03:11:53 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from swills@FreeBSD.org) Received: from [0.0.0.0] (cpe-071-065-239-148.nc.res.rr.com [71.65.239.148] (may be forged)) (authenticated bits=0) by mouf.net (8.14.9/8.14.9) with ESMTP id tB33BVOY084867 (version=TLSv1/SSLv3 cipher=DHE-RSA-AES128-SHA bits=128 verify=NOT); Thu, 3 Dec 2015 03:11:38 GMT (envelope-from swills@FreeBSD.org) Subject: Re: urtwn broken at r291262 To: Andriy Voskoboinyk References: <5659ED1D.70003@FreeBSD.org> <565A271C.6070107@FreeBSD.org> <565A5BB2.3020908@FreeBSD.org> <565A8883.7040100@FreeBSD.org> <565B2E60.8010302@FreeBSD.org> Cc: "freebsd-wireless@freebsd.org" From: Steve Wills Message-ID: <565FB2DD.4080506@FreeBSD.org> Date: Wed, 2 Dec 2015 22:11:25 -0500 User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; FreeBSD amd64; rv:38.0) Gecko/20100101 Thunderbird/38.3.0 MIME-Version: 1.0 In-Reply-To: Content-Type: text/plain; charset=utf-8 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit X-Greylist: Sender succeeded SMTP AUTH, not delayed by milter-greylist-4.4.3 (mouf.net [199.48.129.64]); Thu, 03 Dec 2015 03:11:41 +0000 (UTC) X-Spam-Status: No, score=2.6 required=4.5 tests=RCVD_ILLEGAL_IP,RDNS_NONE autolearn=no autolearn_force=no version=3.4.1 X-Spam-Level: ** X-Spam-Checker-Version: SpamAssassin 3.4.1 (2015-04-28) on mouf.net X-Virus-Scanned: clamav-milter 0.98.7 at mouf.net X-Virus-Status: Clean X-BeenThere: freebsd-wireless@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.20 Precedence: list List-Id: "Discussions of 802.11 stack, tools device driver development." After the "recent" wireless rewrite from Gleb, the enumeration of wireless interfaces has gone from the bsdinstall. This line: https://github.com/HardenedBSD/hardenedBSD/blob/hardened/current/master/usr.sbin/bsdinstall/scripts/netconfig#L52 return no entry, because the wlan interface not exists.
