I am not seeing any problems related to this other than pages of errors in messages. I see them in bursts of 10 to 177 with about a dozen being most typical. The process with PID 5 (assuming that this is what "pid5" means) is pagedaemon. This looks like it might be significant. Can these be ignored? And, if so, can the messages be silenced? I hate meaningless errors messages that might distract from something more important. I will be updating to the most recent 10-STABLE in a few minutes (to get security patches), so maybe they will go away. With any additional displays pursuant to the digital and analog capabilities of the chipset? ie: xeon-e3-1200v3-vol-1-datasheet.pdf Could see people using this with just X11, xterms and 2-D apps like plain old Firefox for a good workstation with.... Acer B326HK BenQ BL3201PH SAMSUNG U32D970Q but heard support for the on-die graphics was iffy or nonexistant yet? Any successes? I had a bizarre X server crash after updating the packages on my KVM guest running 10.1-RELEASE-p9 (Debian-8 host). X server with VESA driver crashes with signal 4 (illegal instruction) when console is set to 'sc' but not when it is 'vt'. After some tests, I've isolated this to be related to QEMU, as same config VirtualBox instance runs updated xorg/driver packages fine. I also tested it on a laptop with Nvidia driver, and no problems there, too. The simple fix for me to get my KVM instance back up and running XFCE4 was to set 'kern.vty=vt' in boot loader conf. Although my problem is fixed, I am curious why the Xorg update to 7.7_2 may exhibit such behavior in KVM. Thank you, Emre. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Comment: GPGTools - http://gpgtools.org iQIcBAEBCAAGBQJVJtd9AAoJEDVmXMpMu6WPq8EP/2GSEan0sc8hGGRGrndG6zoN gHPfnyY9t6hOku0BQuoL+o1FnzijgwCq1vxtDVhJXbDZD0VVUROqSoAWzNTu6Bgc 0TynVthCFAVFEeq21Aohp9Ia7nxKkBVcbL7sMHNpW1pqX5pUv4z3EznSqb2mI9p/ uzDtCntW4q5yx57B/YVkmvQPMGZA25sxbXxq7a5Grf9Fa/ywltTdu3Ty7HlQT2dp j0lBtJEiczSpH9erDanGF6YTwrlAnPrwfm7QVgX4bWyIs0MIHAsbaAEfhLJ5NeL7 0X2jAu9lJvqqqWrwchFiexBZ0oXTnA8OIDKp3W7nQ0J27tyMwqKQPKWYg/isHqa+ iAHMzCi8eHi9FhR5xM4VKvcxsBh4iFsQVNmcpyYoLT9kOzEo0CUFhEgUzhYG145u zmt/iNO0NHIMox8pX1NX06XxNuEmmTL4a3k5TJcm0NKvDx+KRgcuFmc8hMoQZl57 D5w81YsNjo4pSbsOjO/rsMtWPXS2UWbGvaoHRNEYfn5O8cevF6yGE3wbUvCzNw+7 bYKWFTH1xoPqOgIPOPtHI2LLaU7FmSrJ6pnn+Mq6YfpLsxUJqygKHvRnuhhqcEcw kAUtGVBrvUDak59jODnroWijCQ6iYF530RcujZCJj7rPDMjSpunqkhw9/t6gqEZk mk+EwV6ZSXoyZQia/5W4 =kaLJ -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- From owner-freebsd-x11@FreeBSD.ORG Fri Apr 10 04:46:48 2015 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-x11@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [8.8.178.115]) (using TLSv1.2 with cipher AECDH-AES256-SHA (256/256 bits)) (No client certificate requested) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 2CE3879B; Fri, 10 Apr 2015 04:46:48 +0000 (UTC) Received: from mail-qk0-x232.google.com (mail-qk0-x232.google.com [IPv6:2607:f8b0:400d:c09::232]) (using TLSv1.2 with cipher ECDHE-RSA-AES128-GCM-SHA256 (128/128 bits)) (Client CN "smtp.gmail.com", Issuer "Google Internet Authority G2" (verified OK)) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id D7DBE24F; Fri, 10 Apr 2015 04:46:47 +0000 (UTC) Received: by qkgx75 with SMTP id x75so14028155qkg.1; Thu, 09 Apr 2015 21:46:47 -0700 (PDT) DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=gmail.com; s=20120113; h=mime-version:in-reply-to:references:from:date:message-id:subject:to :cc:content-type; bh=yfU5Fyi/OPhkBJnTeLErzNyyUJESZfHeu9K62+5RBbw=; b=oba1eOeXX7U93KTtJMdp7659Y796T3DFmXZTqob0VlBWTQpwwduugbEG3Q5ysssLuU H/AV706Ag7uK0/JYcZMKFMdd2VDkVXvakPJHAwhZBsBf1qYXz/Os42UjqXLJ/50I73DQ 3lvBYvflxQjRkpL3AZ8mCz/EXlwhbbaov7danxSugVDw1x7pyGCl4B05rc4aBYnhKwuQ tUR4G0A9k+3m/70EArwV9o96UUt/1lUPoNGLSmqH7DxathOqpNZ0ygFB8CO1YfYdD2Sj l82eQr20KoQdXHfwK2dZy/lSmDT4dk5QVYrMCtc5qa4Ljc5Mbtttq5MB6BOobk+Bz1sf TBtg== X-Received: by 10.182.87.8 with SMTP id t8mr43367532obz.35.1428641206922; Thu, 09 Apr 2015 21:46:46 -0700 (PDT) MIME-Version: 1.0 Received: by 10.182.101.227 with HTTP; Thu, 9 Apr 2015 21:46:26 -0700 (PDT) In-Reply-To: References: From: Fervent Dissent Date: Fri, 10 Apr 2015 12:46:26 +0800 Message-ID: Subject: Re: X11/DRM and Haswell Xeon E3-1276v3 To: grarpamp Content-Type: text/plain; charset=UTF-8 X-Content-Filtered-By: Mailman/MimeDel 2.1.18-1 Cc: freebsd-x11@freebsd.org, freebsd-hardware@freebsd.org X-BeenThere: freebsd-x11@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.18-1 Precedence: list List-Id: X11 on FreeBSD -- maintaining and support List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Fri, 10 Apr 2015 04:46:48 -0000 I use Haswell with chromium with hdmi. 2d works, but for randr. However, the pattern differs as font type changes (regular vs. bold). To figure out the font select a text with missing glyphs, press "Inspect Element" in context menu, then select "Fonts" tab in the box where CSS rules are showed. Usually, when a glyph is missing in a font Pango tries to substitute it with one from different font and failing that shows a white-box with Unicode code point. The issue may arise if a bad/quirky font provides glyphs only for certain letters but has high priority or fails to render with certain locale, Freetype version, etc. Here are a few more ideas to diagnose the issue: - Can you show the output of fc-list and xset q? Try removing most fonts and disable all but "built-ins". Maybe also regen /var/db/fontconfig from scratch. - Do you have a composite manager running? Try without. - Is firefox built against GTK2 or GTK3? Try different theme e.g., HighContrast - Which X11 video driver do you use?
