Also, I've even compiled Android on Debian VM (wit= h 16 vCPU), so at least Linux doesn't have this problem. ALSO, I have since upgraded my server to head (now running 11.0-ALPHA5) and= the problem seems to be gone. --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.= From owner-freebsd-amd64@freebsd.org Sun Jul 10 12:40:38 2016 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-amd64@mailman.ysv.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::19:1]) by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 31C09B8427B for ; Sun, 10 Jul 2016 12:40:38 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org (kenobi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::16:76]) (using TLSv1.2 with cipher ECDHE-RSA-AES256-GCM-SHA384 (256/256 bits)) (Client did not present a certificate) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 21E2D1218 for ; Sun, 10 Jul 2016 12:40:38 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from bugs.freebsd.org ([127.0.1.118]) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2) with ESMTP id u6ACebpQ047091 for ; Sun, 10 Jul 2016 12:40:38 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) From: bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org To: freebsd-amd64@FreeBSD.org Subject: [Bug 210964] unable to read install cdrom image Date: Sun, 10 Jul 2016 12:40:38 +0000 X-Bugzilla-Reason: CC X-Bugzilla-Type: new X-Bugzilla-Watch-Reason: None X-Bugzilla-Product: Base System X-Bugzilla-Component: kern X-Bugzilla-Version: 10.3-STABLE X-Bugzilla-Keywords: X-Bugzilla-Severity: Affects Only Me X-Bugzilla-Who: edwin_rhodes@hotmail.com X-Bugzilla-Status: New X-Bugzilla-Resolution: X-Bugzilla-Priority: --- X-Bugzilla-Assigned-To: freebsd-bugs@FreeBSD.org X-Bugzilla-Flags: X-Bugzilla-Changed-Fields: bug_id short_desc product version rep_platform op_sys bug_status bug_severity priority component assigned_to reporter cc Message-ID: Content-Type: text/plain; charset="UTF-8" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable X-Bugzilla-URL: https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/ Auto-Submitted: auto-generated MIME-Version: 1.0 X-Mailman-Approved-At: Sun, 10 Jul 2016 13:43:22 +0000 X-BeenThere: freebsd-amd64@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.22 Precedence: list List-Id: Porting FreeBSD to the AMD64 platform List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Sun, 10 Jul 2016 12:40:38 -0000 https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=3D210964 Bug ID: 210964 Summary: unable to read install cdrom image Product: Base System Version: 10.3-STABLE Hardware: amd64 OS: Any Status: New Severity: Affects Only Me Priority: --- Component: kern Assignee: freebsd-bugs@FreeBSD.org Reporter: edwin_rhodes@hotmail.com CC: freebsd-amd64@FreeBSD.org CC: freebsd-amd64@FreeBSD.org unable to read install cdrom disk1 or mini cdrom during install boot, kernel error, i am using a 700mb cdrom disk, it works fine under virtualbox on win= dows 10, but native on a dell 1950 it wont read from the cdrom. i have tried bur= ing the cd images on different media types and different speeds and have tried = ftp downloading the install images from the internet using different pcs. i dont this its a corrupt cdrom image as the same image works fine in virutual box= and the same physically burnt cdrom works fine under virtualbox, but that is us= ing the windows cdrom subsystem not the kernel direct on hardware. --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.= From owner-freebsd-amd64@freebsd.org Sun Jul 10 19:51:30 2016 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-amd64@mailman.ysv.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::19:1]) by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 1B74DB85679 for ; Sun, 10 Jul 2016 19:51:30 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org (kenobi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::16:76]) (using TLSv1.2 with cipher ECDHE-RSA-AES256-GCM-SHA384 (256/256 bits)) (Client did not present a certificate) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id E60F31DAE for ; Sun, 10 Jul 2016 19:51:29 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from bugs.freebsd.org ([127.0.1.118]) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2) with ESMTP id u6AJpTqC086511 for ; Sun, 10 Jul 2016 19:51:29 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) From: bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org To: freebsd-amd64@FreeBSD.org Subject: [Bug 210986] Conflict ZFS with GEOM ? It showed the total page allocations that happened in this context was vm_page_alloc 1045039 which is approx 3.99G. On probing a little deeper, the link_elf_load_file calls for vm_map_find with mapspace of 20MB. This results in a call to vm_map_findspace which I believe first checks if it can do a contiguous allocation within the kernel_map else it goes trying to map it beyond the kernel_map. Probing further we see that before the call to vm_map_find the kernel_vm_end is at the default value of kernbase at 0xffffffff80000000 The vm_map_findspace then picks the new start address to be 0xffffffff83d68000. The call to pmap_growkernel does grow the number of kernel page table entries to match the new end address i.e 0xffffffff85136000 and thereby kernel_vm_end is also adjusted to 0xffffffff85200000 from the initial default value of 0xffffffff80000000. Is my understanding correct here that vm_map_find is unable to allocate the 20MB mapspace requested in the kernel_map and hence calls pmap_growkernel thereby resulting in the wired memory increase? -- Shrikanth R K From owner-freebsd-amd64@freebsd.org Wed Jul 13 17:46:13 2016 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-amd64@mailman.ysv.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::19:1]) by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id DC068B98980 for ; I use Slim as the login manager. But when I try to login, with correct username and passwd, Slim tell me that "Failed to execute login command" (Any idea why would that happen?) So I try to switch back to the console use "Alt-F1...Alt-F8", which is suggested by the doc. But that doesn't work. Why ? How can I switch back to the console to tune the system? But that doesn't work. Why ? Try CTRL+ALT+F1 through F8. When are the console, you use Alt+F1 through F8, but need to add the CTRL over X11 starts.
