Firefox uses Pulseaudio as audio output. CPU usage (top, raw cpu %) went down a bit, from 150% to around 100%, but C= PU usage is still high. I've also discovered the problem is not only in the audio, problem also with video. You see, when I play video via Firefox, X.org uses around 50% CPU. T= his means that there is a LOT of data copying going on between Firefox and X.or= g.=20 Honestly, the only way I could get X.org use more than a few percent of CPU during video playback with any media player is to use the obsolete X11 -bac= kend (which apparently copies data and does other horrible things). --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.= From owner-freebsd-gecko@freebsd.org Fri Mar 4 16:59:19 2016 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-gecko@mailman.ysv.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::19:1]) by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id AEAA39DAEF7 for ; Fri, 4 Mar 2016 16:59:19 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (mailman.ysv.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::50:5]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 9A4C9CA5 for ; Fri, 4 Mar 2016 16:59:19 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) id 9556E9DAEF6; Fri, 4 Mar 2016 16:59:19 +0000 (UTC) Delivered-To: gecko@mailman.ysv.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::19:1]) by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 94F229DAEF4 for ; Fri, 4 Mar 2016 16:59:19 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org (kenobi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::16:76]) (using TLSv1.2 with cipher ECDHE-RSA-AES256-GCM-SHA384 (256/256 bits)) (Client did not present a certificate) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 863F1CA4 for ; Fri, 4 Mar 2016 16:59:19 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from bugs.freebsd.org ([127.0.1.118]) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2) with ESMTP id u24GxILc095754 for ; Fri, 4 Mar 2016 16:59:19 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) From: bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org To: gecko@FreeBSD.org Subject: [Bug 196667] www/firefox crashes often when loading multiple multimedia/gstreamer1 content once again (e.g. HTML 5 YouTube) Date: Fri, 04 Mar 2016 16:59:18 +0000 X-Bugzilla-Reason: AssignedTo X-Bugzilla-Type: changed X-Bugzilla-Watch-Reason: None X-Bugzilla-Product: Ports & Packages X-Bugzilla-Component: Individual Port(s) X-Bugzilla-Version: Latest X-Bugzilla-Keywords: X-Bugzilla-Severity: Affects Only Me X-Bugzilla-Who: jbeich@FreeBSD.org X-Bugzilla-Status: New X-Bugzilla-Resolution: X-Bugzilla-Priority: --- X-Bugzilla-Assigned-To: gecko@FreeBSD.org X-Bugzilla-Flags: X-Bugzilla-Changed-Fields: Message-ID: In-Reply-To: References: Content-Type: text/plain; charset="UTF-8" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable X-Bugzilla-URL: https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/ Auto-Submitted: auto-generated MIME-Version: 1.0 X-BeenThere: freebsd-gecko@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.21 Precedence: list List-Id: Gecko Rendering Engine issues List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Fri, 04 Mar 2016 16:59:19 -0000 https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=3D196667 --- Comment #28 from Jan Beich --- Can you still reproduce? www/firefox no longer supports gstreamer since ports r404688. If Firefox uses OpenGL (via Cairo) during video playback, I am really curio= us why it makes X.org use 50% CPU ... very strange indeed. --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.= From owner-freebsd-gecko@freebsd.org Fri Mar 4 22:31:03 2016 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-gecko@mailman.ysv.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::19:1]) by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 164FFA09FF7 for ; Fri, 4 Mar 2016 22:31:03 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (mailman.ysv.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::50:5]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 010E11627 for ; Fri, 4 Mar 2016 22:31:03 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) id F0FA4A09FF6; Fri, 4 Mar 2016 22:31:02 +0000 (UTC) Delivered-To: gecko@mailman.ysv.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::19:1]) by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id F0910A09FF5 for ; Fri, 4 Mar 2016 22:31:02 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org (kenobi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::16:76]) (using TLSv1.2 with cipher ECDHE-RSA-AES256-GCM-SHA384 (256/256 bits)) (Client did not present a certificate) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id E0F671626 for ; Fri, 4 Mar 2016 22:31:02 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from bugs.freebsd.org ([127.0.1.118]) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2) with ESMTP id u24MV2GF016560 for ; Fri, 4 Mar 2016 22:31:02 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) From: bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org To: gecko@FreeBSD.org Subject: [Bug 203732] www/firefox: High CPU usage when playing HTML5 video when audio/alsa-plugins is built with BUFSZ_P2=off Date: Fri, 04 Mar 2016 22:31:02 +0000 X-Bugzilla-Reason: AssignedTo X-Bugzilla-Type: changed X-Bugzilla-Watch-Reason: None X-Bugzilla-Product: Ports & Packages X-Bugzilla-Component: Individual Port(s) X-Bugzilla-Version: Latest X-Bugzilla-Keywords: performance X-Bugzilla-Severity: Affects Only Me X-Bugzilla-Who: henry.hu.sh@gmail.com X-Bugzilla-Status: Open X-Bugzilla-Resolution: X-Bugzilla-Priority: --- X-Bugzilla-Assigned-To: gecko@FreeBSD.org X-Bugzilla-Flags: maintainer-feedback+ X-Bugzilla-Changed-Fields: Message-ID: In-Reply-To: References: Content-Type: text/plain; charset="UTF-8" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable X-Bugzilla-URL: https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/ Auto-Submitted: auto-generated MIME-Version: 1.0 X-BeenThere: freebsd-gecko@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.21 Precedence: list List-Id: Gecko Rendering Engine issues List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Fri, 04 Mar 2016 22:31:03 -0000 https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=3D203732 --- Comment #11 from Henry Hu --- (In reply to Arto Pekkanen from comment #10) Check this bug report: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3D970308 A developer mentioned "My answer was in reference to Linux not having hardware acceleration at th= is stage" And "There is no hardware acceleration on Linux at this stage. It is because of the XRender extension. If I disable XRender, then Firefox would use more CPU whilst X.o= rg would use less. Apparently XRender is used to do basic compositioning at X-server end, and in my situation turning it off solved some of the excessi= ve CPU usage. --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.= From owner-freebsd-gecko@freebsd.org Sat Mar 5 00:44:24 2016 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-gecko@mailman.ysv.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::19:1]) by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 6C49B9DA4FA for ; Sat, 5 Mar 2016 00:44:24 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (mailman.ysv.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::50:5]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 578397EA for ; Sat, 5 Mar 2016 00:44:24 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) id 4D5989DA4F9; Sat, 5 Mar 2016 00:44:24 +0000 (UTC) Delivered-To: gecko@mailman.ysv.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::19:1]) by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4CF009DA4F8 for ; Sat, 5 Mar 2016 00:44:24 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org (kenobi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::16:76]) (using TLSv1.2 with cipher ECDHE-RSA-AES256-GCM-SHA384 (256/256 bits)) (Client did not present a certificate) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 3D9417E9 for ; Sat, 5 Mar 2016 00:44:24 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from bugs.freebsd.org ([127.0.1.118]) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2) with ESMTP id u250iNFN037954 for ; Sat, 5 Mar 2016 00:44:24 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) From: bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org To: gecko@FreeBSD.org Subject: [Bug 203732] www/firefox: High CPU usage when playing HTML5 video when audio/alsa-plugins is built with BUFSZ_P2=off Date: Sat, 05 Mar 2016 00:44:24 +0000 X-Bugzilla-Reason: AssignedTo X-Bugzilla-Type: changed X-Bugzilla-Watch-Reason: None X-Bugzilla-Product: Ports & Packages X-Bugzilla-Component: Individual Port(s) X-Bugzilla-Version: Latest X-Bugzilla-Keywords: performance X-Bugzilla-Severity: Affects Only Me X-Bugzilla-Who: henry.hu.sh@gmail.com X-Bugzilla-Status: Open X-Bugzilla-Resolution: X-Bugzilla-Priority: --- X-Bugzilla-Assigned-To: gecko@FreeBSD.org X-Bugzilla-Flags: maintainer-feedback+ X-Bugzilla-Changed-Fields: Message-ID: In-Reply-To: References: Content-Type: text/plain; charset="UTF-8" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable X-Bugzilla-URL: https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/ Auto-Submitted: auto-generated MIME-Version: 1.0 X-BeenThere: freebsd-gecko@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.21 Precedence: list List-Id: Gecko Rendering Engine issues List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Sat, 05 Mar 2016 00:44:24 -0000 https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=3D203732 --- Comment #13 from Henry Hu --- (In reply to Arto Pekkanen from comment #12) You can go to about:config and turn gfx.xrender.enabled to off to see if it makes a difference.
