Including FreeBSD 12 and DragonFly BSD. I have traced the problem to FreeBSD classifying the Unicode private use code point block from 0xFDD0 to 0xFDEF. The `iswalnum()` and `iswgraph()` libc functio= ns incorrectly return one for those code points. The Unicode standard (see sec= tion 16.7) is very clear that those code points represent "non-characters" (see http://www.unicode.org/versions/Unicode6.0.0/ch16.pdf and http://www.fileformat.info/info/unicode/char/fdd0/index.htm). Thus those functions should return zero as the GNU libc implementation does. More background can be found in these fish issues: https://github.com/fish-shell/fish-shell/issues/3050 https://github.com/fish-shell/fish-shell/issues/3406 https://github.com/fish-shell/fish-shell/issues/3302 --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.= From owner-freebsd-standards@freebsd.org Tue Sep 27 01:49:05 2016 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-standards@mailman.ysv.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::19:1]) by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 30D81BEB4BA for ; Tue, 27 Sep 2016 01:49:05 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org (kenobi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::16:76]) (using TLSv1.2 with cipher ECDHE-RSA-AES256-GCM-SHA384 (256/256 bits)) (Client did not present a certificate) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 20455DA7 for ; Tue, 27 Sep 2016 01:49:05 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from bugs.freebsd.org ([127.0.1.118]) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2) with ESMTP id u8R1n5Wn034065 for ; Tue, 27 Sep 2016 01:49:05 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) From: bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org To: freebsd-standards@FreeBSD.org Subject: [Bug 213013] unicode private use chars incorrectly classified Date: Tue, 27 Sep 2016 01:49:05 +0000 X-Bugzilla-Reason: AssignedTo X-Bugzilla-Type: changed X-Bugzilla-Watch-Reason: None X-Bugzilla-Product: Base System X-Bugzilla-Component: standards X-Bugzilla-Version: CURRENT X-Bugzilla-Keywords: X-Bugzilla-Severity: Affects Many People X-Bugzilla-Who: krader@skepticism.us X-Bugzilla-Status: New X-Bugzilla-Resolution: X-Bugzilla-Priority: --- X-Bugzilla-Assigned-To: freebsd-standards@FreeBSD.org X-Bugzilla-Flags: X-Bugzilla-Changed-Fields: bug_file_loc Message-ID: In-Reply-To: References: Content-Type: text/plain; charset="UTF-8" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable X-Bugzilla-URL: https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/ Auto-Submitted: auto-generated MIME-Version: 1.0 X-BeenThere: freebsd-standards@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.23 Precedence: list List-Id: Standards compliance List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Tue, 27 Sep 2016 01:49:05 -0000 https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=3D213013 Kurtis Rader changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- URL| |https://github.com/fish-she | |ll/fish-shell/issues/3050 --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.= From owner-freebsd-standards@freebsd.org Tue Sep 27 03:19:15 2016 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-standards@mailman.ysv.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::19:1]) by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id E11FCBEA8BE for ; Tue, 27 Sep 2016 03:19:15 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org (kenobi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::16:76]) (using TLSv1.2 with cipher ECDHE-RSA-AES256-GCM-SHA384 (256/256 bits)) (Client did not present a certificate) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id D0AC96E9 for ; Tue, 27 Sep 2016 03:19:15 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from bugs.freebsd.org ([127.0.1.118]) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2) with ESMTP id u8R3JF9b073025 for ; Tue, 27 Sep 2016 03:19:15 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) From: bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org To: freebsd-standards@FreeBSD.org Subject: [Bug 213013] unicode private use chars incorrectly classified Date: Tue, 27 Sep 2016 03:19:16 +0000 X-Bugzilla-Reason: AssignedTo X-Bugzilla-Type: changed X-Bugzilla-Watch-Reason: None X-Bugzilla-Product: Base System X-Bugzilla-Component: standards X-Bugzilla-Version: CURRENT X-Bugzilla-Keywords: X-Bugzilla-Severity: Affects Many People X-Bugzilla-Who: asomers@FreeBSD.org X-Bugzilla-Status: New X-Bugzilla-Resolution: X-Bugzilla-Priority: --- X-Bugzilla-Assigned-To: freebsd-standards@FreeBSD.org X-Bugzilla-Flags: X-Bugzilla-Changed-Fields: Message-ID: In-Reply-To: References: Content-Type: text/plain; charset="UTF-8" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable X-Bugzilla-URL: https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/ Auto-Submitted: auto-generated MIME-Version: 1.0 X-BeenThere: freebsd-standards@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.23 Precedence: list List-Id: Standards compliance List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Tue, 27 Sep 2016 03:19:16 -0000 https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=3D213013 --- Comment #1 from Alan Somers --- 0xFDD0 and 0xFDEF aren't from the private use code block; they're from the Arabic Presentation Forms code block. The reason those code points are in the Arab= ic Presentation Forms code block is a historical accident. That is, contingent= on the development of Unicode over many years. From the PDF standards document= I linked to: > In addition, there is a contiguous range of another 32 noncharacter code = points in the BMP: U+FDD0..U+FDEF. For historical reasons, the range U+FDD0= ..U+FDEF is contained within the Arabic Presentation Forms-A block, but tho= se noncharacters are not =E2=80=9CArabic noncharacters=E2=80=9D or =E2=80= =9Cright-to-left noncharacters,=E2=80=9D and are not distinguished in any o= ther way from the other noncharacters, except in their code point values.
