Watching the default version of Samba switching from 4.6 to 4.7, due to 4.9 being around the corner and 4.6 being dropped upstream, I feel like reviving this old thread: > http://linux-unix-open-source.1053819.n5.nabble.com/Future-of-SAMBA-on-FreeBSD-td5932128.html I'm currently using several 4.6 installations, some NT DC, some AD DC, some DC members either in base or in jails on UFS or ZFS and these will need upgrading. Also, I'm probably deploying a new AD domain which will need a DC and a fileserver member (both in jails). So I'm wondering... Since I used this hack (1) when provisioning the AD DCs in a jails on ZFS, will I encounter problems when I upgrade them? > (1) http://freebsd.1045724.x6.nabble.com/Help-provisioning-a-Samba-AD-in-a-jail-on-ZFS-td6218355.html When provisioning a new AD DC on ZFS, would the above hack still work if using Samba? Seems not with 4.7 according to (2)... What about 4.8? > (2) https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=225676 Also, I'm tempted to skip 4.7 completely and move to 4.8 directly; not that I'd get any advantage that I know of, but that would buy me around six months more, before I have to go through this all again. Any showstopper? bye & Thanks av. Patch upstream? Patch the port? I have submitted a very crude patch about 2-3 years ago, to just add it to /usr/include/sys/errno.h as alias for ENOATTR. ENODATA in this file actually defines it as 9919 Which makes interoperability hard, since the call that uses it as err-value actually returns ENOATTR. So for linux compatibility you'd need to match is with ENOATTR(87). Now linux defines it to be 67, as return err-value of getattr. :( So if you are going to push raw error values over the line, you will need to translate them. (and you'll find that error value sets are 2 worlds appart) This is what I have in the Ceph code to have it actually make sense. ENODATA or ENOATTR is actually defined to be returned with getattr() calls. /* Make sure that ENODATA is defined in the correct way */ #ifdef ENODATA #if (ENODATA == 9919) // #warning ENODATA already defined to be 9919, redefining to fix // Silencing this warning because it fires at all files where compat.h // is included after boost files. // // This value stems from the definition in the boost library // And when this case occurs it is due to the fact that boost files // are included before this file. Redefinition might not help in this // case since already parsed code has evaluated to the wrong value. // This would warrant for a definition that would actually be evaluated // at the location of usage and report a possible conflict. // This is left up to a future improvement #elif (ENODATA != 87) #warning ENODATA already defined to a value different from 87 (ENOATRR), refining to fix #endif #undef ENODATA #endif #define ENODATA ENOATTR --WjW From owner-freebsd-ports@freebsd.org Tue Sep 4 06:55:29 2018 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-ports@mailman.ysv.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 3FD26FE4617 for ; Tue, 4 Sep 2018 06:55:29 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from wojtek@puchar.net) Received: from puchar.net (puchar.net [194.1.144.90]) (using TLSv1.2 with cipher ECDHE-RSA-AES256-GCM-SHA384 (256/256 bits)) (Client CN "puchar.net", Issuer "puchar.net" (not verified)) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id BD8218A57D; Tue, 4 Sep 2018 06:55:28 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from wojtek@puchar.net) Received: Received: from 127.0.0.1 (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by puchar.net (8.15.2/8.15.2) with ESMTPS id w846tCNx018089 (version=TLSv1.2 cipher=ECDHE-RSA-AES256-GCM-SHA384 bits=256 verify=NO); Tue, 4 Sep 2018 08:55:12 +0200 (CEST) (envelope-from puchar-wojtek@puchar.net) Received: from localhost (puchar-wojtek@localhost) by puchar.net (8.15.2/8.15.2/Submit) with ESMTP id w846t719018086; Tue, 4 Sep 2018 08:55:07 +0200 (CEST) (envelope-from puchar-wojtek@puchar.net) Date: Tue, 4 Sep 2018 08:55:07 +0200 (CEST) From: Wojciech Puchar To: Andrea Venturoli cc: freebsd-ports@freebsd.org, timur@FreeBSD.org Subject: Re: Future of Samba again In-Reply-To: <7ab44e8e-6103-d5c4-062c-07d710451823@netfence.it> Message-ID: References: <7ab44e8e-6103-d5c4-062c-07d710451823@netfence.it> User-Agent: Alpine 2.20 (BSF 67 2015-01-07) MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII; format=flowed X-BeenThere: freebsd-ports@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.27 Precedence: list List-Id: Porting software to FreeBSD List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Tue, 04 Sep 2018 06:55:29 -0000 > this old thread: > >> http://linux-unix-open-source.1053819.n5.nabble.com/Future-of-SAMBA-on-FreeBSD-td5932128.html well i still use 3.6.25 :) > > > > > I'm currently using several 4.6 installations, some NT DC, some AD DC, some > DC members either in base or in jails on UFS or ZFS and these will need > upgrading. > Also, I'm probably deploying a new AD domain which will need a DC and a > fileserver member (both in jails). > > So I'm wondering... > > > > > > Since I used this hack (1) when provisioning the AD DCs in a jails on ZFS, > will I encounter problems when I upgrade them? I really like the idea of the suggested framework. In our ports tree, we have PostgreSQL versions from 9.3 upwards. The support matrix of PostgreSQL and PostGIS versions [1] shows, that PostGIS 2.1 and 2.2 are obsolete now and can be deprecated. PostGIS 2.4 seems to be the version with support for all PostgreSQL version in our tree. I have no idea how to set that, but I've tried all the suggestions I found (setting TZ, LC_ALL, LC_TIME, etc...). Is this document still valid for us on FreeBSD: > http://kb.mozillazine.org/Date_display_format#Configuring_the_date.2Ftime_system_settings_on_your_computer Is this supposed to work? Is it a regression in 60.0? Is it working for others? bye & Thanks av. I run several instances of Nagios and they all share a problem: reports, alert histories, notifications, etc... cannot be viewed due to permission problems. In fact all the files are owned by nagios and access is denied to user www. Of course I can chown/chmod them, but it's not a permanent solution as rotation or new file creation will bring the problem back. I see this was discussed here: https://github.com/NagiosEnterprises/nagioscore/issues/303 and I understand correctly this is supposed to be fixed upstream. I cannot speak about Nagios but if you really want to use PHP to connect to MSSQL, you can use databases/php71-pdo_dblib Miroslav Lachman
