Berner from comment #2) Thanks so much for helping at this. First, if builds cleanly on 12.1, though you likely knew that. avidemux is a video editor, though it can still demux an avi or even an mp4= .=20 The name is obsolete as it now supports most common codecs and muxers. The = most important part of the tool is the extremely easy to use GUI editor, formerly avidemux-qt4, which has been deleted with the removal of qt4. As of avidemux-2.7 it defaults to qt5 and getting that part to work is really the key. The old qt4 port can be recovered from svn as r476029. It is quite possible that it will just build. I will need to be sure that I have a safety copy of the 2.6 version before I can try it as I still active= ly use it and would hate to lose it before 2.7 is working. I will try soon, though. --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.= From owner-freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org Mon Dec 16 15:41:31 2019 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-multimedia@mailman.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 18CCA1E75DE for ; VLC, Firefox and mplayer got stuck already at configure, but there were details I did not mention. Before I tried compiling these ports I had run "torsocks pkg upgrade", and when I tried to build the ports I ran: "torsocks make clean && torsocks make install". This resulted in almost poltergeist behaviour on the computer. Today I tried running "pkg upgrade" without using torsocks, and after that all the ports I have tried to build compiled happily. I didn't even have to update the ports from svn. I was hesitating to make this question, but I felt motivated by the Handbook [1] when it says "The mailing lists are the most direct way of addressing questions or opening a technical discussion to a concentrated FreeBSD audience" . It's a newby question on audio programming. I have this simple OSS application attached to this email to record and playback a file. I studded the internals of audio/ecasound and audio/sox and wrote two identical apps in C++ and C , and none of them correctly apply gain to the audio samples. The one attached is in C. I used the same approach as in sox src/vol.c [2] to turn the volume down: - read an audio sample as integer (stereo 16 bit LE) - convert to float - apply a gain, like: sample *= 0.3f - convert to integer again But the sound becomes distorted and noisy. I would be glad with help and/or recommendation about Audio Programming books, too. If this e-mail is going too far from the objectives of the list, please apologize and feel free to say so. Thanks, [1] https://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/handbook/eresources-mail.html [2] https://sourceforge.net/p/sox/code/ci/master/tree/src/vol.c -- Marcel Bonnet From owner-freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org Fri Dec 20 18:46:10 2019 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-multimedia@mailman.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id E2C1F1E0CF5 for ; Fri, 20 Dec 2019 18:46:10 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from hps@selasky.org) Received: from mail.turbocat.net (turbocat.net [88.99.82.50]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits)) (Client did not present a certificate) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 47fd4K6QYyz4HC7 for ; Fri, 20 Dec 2019 18:46:09 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from hps@selasky.org) Received: from hps2016.home.selasky.org (unknown [62.141.129.235]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_128_GCM_SHA256 (128/128 bits)) (No client certificate requested) by mail.turbocat.net (Postfix) with ESMTPSA id 11DDA2602EC; Fri, 20 Dec 2019 19:46:02 +0100 (CET) Subject: Re: [off-topic] Applying gain to an audio sample To: Marcel Bonnet , FreeBSD multimedia References: From: Hans Petter Selasky Message-ID: <77875a51-0cef-a27f-7d27-9eac8426bb74@selasky.org> Date: Fri, 20 Dec 2019 19:42:55 +0100 User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; FreeBSD amd64; rv:68.0) Gecko/20100101 Thunderbird/68.1.2 MIME-Version: 1.0 In-Reply-To: Content-Type: text/plain; charset=utf-8; format=flowed Content-Language: en-US Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit X-Rspamd-Queue-Id: 47fd4K6QYyz4HC7 X-Spamd-Bar: ----- Authentication-Results: mx1.freebsd.org; dkim=none; dmarc=none; spf=pass (mx1.freebsd.org: domain of hps@selasky.org designates 88.99.82.50 as permitted sender) smtp.mailfrom=hps@selasky.org X-Spamd-Result: default: False [-5.42 / 15.00]; ARC_NA(0.00)[]; RCVD_VIA_SMTP_AUTH(0.00)[]; NEURAL_HAM_MEDIUM(-1.00)[-1.000,0]; FROM_HAS_DN(0.00)[]; R_SPF_ALLOW(-0.20)[+a:mail.turbocat.net:c]; NEURAL_HAM_LONG(-1.00)[-1.000,0]; MIME_GOOD(-0.10)[text/plain]; DMARC_NA(0.00)[selasky.org]; TO_MATCH_ENVRCPT_SOME(0.00)[]; TO_DN_ALL(0.00)[]; RCPT_COUNT_TWO(0.00)[2]; IP_SCORE(-3.12)[ip: (-9.32), ipnet: 88.99.0.0/16(-4.72), asn: 24940(-1.56), country: DE(-0.02)]; FREEMAIL_TO(0.00)[gmail.com]; FROM_EQ_ENVFROM(0.00)[]; R_DKIM_NA(0.00)[]; MIME_TRACE(0.00)[0:+]; ASN(0.00)[asn:24940, ipnet:88.99.0.0/16, country:DE]; MID_RHS_MATCH_FROM(0.00)[]; RCVD_TLS_ALL(0.00)[]; RCVD_COUNT_TWO(0.00)[2] X-BeenThere: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.29 Precedence: list List-Id: Multimedia discussions List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Fri, 20 Dec 2019 18:46:10 -0000 On 2019-12-20 19:43, Marcel Bonnet wrote: > - read an audio sample as integer (stereo 16 bit LE) > - convert to float > - apply a gain, like: sample *= 0.3f > - convert to integer again The attachment is missing. The native endian? > > Yes. > > Try my corrections first. > > --HPS > Thank you! As you pointed out, I was using the wrong type for my buffer and also the wrong number for nbytes in read()/write() . I updated the code with other changes needed. Now gain factor works perfectly as observed in SoX source code I previously mentioned. The process that ha= ngs in my case is gmake, and that doesn't use threads (unless you mean that qemu-user-static uses threads internally). A stack trace of the process th= at qemu-*-static is running would probably be useful, but I don't know how to generate that. --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.=
