LinuxKPI in base have received a lot of updates recently for Linux 5.0, a couple of them will break drm-current-kmod. So, as of r347973 you will need drm-current-kmod 4.16.g20190519. Ports have been updated and new packages should be available shortly. A drm-???-kmod port for 5.0 drivers will be created as soon as we fixed a pretty serious vm page cache memory leak (limited to 5.0 code in ports). Once 5.0 is regarded stable, it will replace the 4.16 as default for -CURRENT (and future 12.1) (rejoice Vega graphics users:)) Until then, feel free to test with r347973+ and https://github.com/FreeBSDDesktop/kms-drm/tree/drm-v5.0 Cheers! That's a very good question. Maybe I should have included more information regarding what's not affected. The last series of commits have been to LinuxKPI in -CURRENT. As such: drm-kmod: Meta port, not relevant drm-current-kmod: See original message drm-fbsd11.2-kmod: Not affected by changes in -CURRENT drm-fbsd12.0-kmod: Not affected by changes in -CURRENT drm-legacy-kmod: Not affected by changes in LinuxKPI drm-stable-kmod does not exist anymore. Stable drm kmod ports for other than -CURRENT are more or less frozen in separate branches where they only receive bug fixes (drm-fbsdxxx-kmod). Feb 12 13:01:55 2019) on a UEFI laptop with an Intel UHD display, booting a ZFS root filesystem (gptzfsboot(8)). I'm trying to get the console into a lower resolution than the native UHD when the kernel is booted.  I can manually do this by breaking into the loader prompt at boot and entering 'mode 1', then 'boot'. loader.conf(5) says I can run this command automatically with the 'exec' directive, but the video mode doesn't change. $ sudo cat /boot/loader.conf Password: autoboot_delay="3" #boot_single="YES" boot_verbose="YES" kern.timecounter.hardware="HPET" hw.psm.synaptics_support="1" kern.vty="vt" hw.vga.textmode="1" efi_max_resolution="1920x1080" exec="mode 1" I've also tried using directive 'efi_max_resolution' - same result. Does 'exec' work on my configuration (UEFI boot, ZFS root), or am I not using it right?  I've tried putting other loader commands in 'exec' with no effect. Same question for efi_max_resolution. A separate question (possibly for graphics@ or x11@) is when the i915(4) kernel module from the graphics/drm-current-kmod port is loaded by rc.conf(4)'s 'kld_list' variable.  When I do manually set the console resolution using 'mode 1', it is reset to maximum resolution when i915(4) is loaded. (cc: x11 list) According to this https://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=article&item=virtualbox-60-vmsvga&num=1 vbox can now use the vmwgfx kernel driver for accelerated graphics. With that I assume that virtualbox's own drm driver project is scrapped. I've been working on porting vmwgfx from Linux to our linuxkpi. It works pretty well with freebsd 13 as vmware guest on macos as long you're using only one vcpu (some race condition issue to be solved..).  It would be cool if we could get accelerated graphics in vbox, with freebsd as both host and guest since vmware can't run as host on freebsd. Do you have any idea what would be required to get the host side of things working? Will it work automagically if the freebsd host has a drm driver loaded or do we need to port some code form linux/ to freebsd/ within virtualbox? I'm happy to work together with you and put more effort into getting vmwgfx running stable in vmware/vbox if we can get host side of things working in vbox 6. Cheers! /Johannes From owner-freebsd-x11@freebsd.org Tue May 21 18:46:32 2019 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-x11@mailman.ysv.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id D7B7315B5AFB for ; Host driver is not necessary but it requires certain OpenGL extensions and VirtualBox comes with a tool to check 2D/3D acceleration requirements for hosts. % /usr/local/lib/virtualbox/VBoxTestOGL --help Oracle VM VirtualBox Helper for testing 2D/3D OpenGL capabilities 6.0.8 (C) 2009-2019 Oracle Corporation All rights reserved.
