Yes, I've set net.inet.carp.preempt=1 in the VNET jail /etc/sysctl.conf, and I have another peer (running on the HOST currently). I found the problem: for some reasons I had to issue a service pf reload after a restart of the jail. I guess probably some race condition with the epair/vlan/... interfaces and/or the carp demotion counter and the pflogd/pfsync interfaces .. This is not frequent enough for 10Gbps NICs and beyond (e.g., ixgbe or ixl). The end result is that the transmitting netmap application is not woken up fast enough to saturate the link with small packets. - The iflib_timer() functions also calls isc_txd_credits_update() to ask for more TX completion updates. However, this violates the netmap requirement that only txsync can access the TX queue for datapath operations. Only netmap_tx_irq() may be called out of the txsync context. This change introduces per-tx-queue netmap timers, using microsecond granularity to ensure that netmap_tx_irq() can be called often enough to allow for maximum packet rate. The timer routine simply calls netmap_tx_irq() to wake up the netmap application. The latter will wake up and call txsync to collect TX completion updates. This change brings back line rate speed with small packets for ixgbe. For the time being, timer expiration is hardcoded to 90 microseconds, in order to avoid introducing a new sysctl. We may eventually implement an adaptive expiration period or use another deferred work mechanism in place of timers. Also, fix the timers usage to make sure that each queue is serviced by a different CPU. You need to rebuild application with correct ip_mroute.h where MAXVIFS is defined. Also it is possible, that your application has own definition of t= his constant, so you need to check application sources for this case. --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.= From owner-freebsd-net@freebsd.org Fri Nov 13 15:03:06 2020 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-net@mailman.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id ED6172E58B0 for ; Fri, 13 Nov 2020 15:03:06 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from mailman.nyi.freebsd.org (unknown [127.0.1.3]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4CXhY66Ccjz4Vmv for ; Fri, 13 Nov 2020 15:03:06 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: by mailman.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) id D53AF2E5833; Fri, 13 Nov 2020 15:03:06 +0000 (UTC) Delivered-To: net@mailman.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id D50492E5B98 for ; Fri, 13 Nov 2020 15:03:06 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org (mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:3]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) key-exchange X25519 server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) server-digest SHA256 client-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) client-digest SHA256) (Client CN "mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org", Issuer "Let's Encrypt Authority X3" (verified OK)) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 4CXhY65Wzvz4Vvv for ; Fri, 13 Nov 2020 15:03:06 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org (kenobi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::50:1d]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) key-exchange X25519 server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) server-digest SHA256) (Client did not present a certificate) by mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id B0C6919FB8 for ; Fri, 13 Nov 2020 15:03:06 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org ([127.0.1.5]) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2) with ESMTP id 0ADF36iq030015 for ; Fri, 13 Nov 2020 15:03:06 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: (from www@localhost) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2/Submit) id 0ADF36wC030014 for net@FreeBSD.org; Fri, 13 Nov 2020 15:03:06 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) X-Authentication-Warning: kenobi.freebsd.org: www set sender to bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org using -f From: bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org To: net@FreeBSD.org Subject: [Bug 236983] bnxt(4) VLAN not operational unless explicit "ifconfig promisc" is used on the physical IF Date: Fri, 13 Nov 2020 15:03:07 +0000 X-Bugzilla-Reason: AssignedTo X-Bugzilla-Type: changed X-Bugzilla-Watch-Reason: None X-Bugzilla-Product: Base System X-Bugzilla-Component: kern X-Bugzilla-Version: 11.2-STABLE X-Bugzilla-Keywords: needs-qa X-Bugzilla-Severity: Affects Some People X-Bugzilla-Who: juraj@lutter.sk X-Bugzilla-Status: Open X-Bugzilla-Resolution: X-Bugzilla-Priority: Normal X-Bugzilla-Assigned-To: net@FreeBSD.org X-Bugzilla-Flags: mfc-stable12? mfc-stable11?
