A few years ago I tried getting freebsd onto a mips64 (octeon) device (it's an edgerouter lite 3) but failed. I found it was supported more completely on OpenBSD and installation was relatively straightforward, and the instructions are very thorough. On OpenBSD it's supported so well it'll do binary upgrades. Regarding "old" hardware: this device really isn't "old". I think I got it about 5 years ago. It's had OpenBSD running on it for the past 3-4 years or so and it is *so stable* I'm very happy with it. --=20 J. --uLCwe7hS9j4NPytn Content-Type: application/pgp-signature; name="signature.asc" -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- iQIzBAABCAAdFiEE8n3tWhxW11Ccvv9/s8o7QhFzNAUFAmFTH+IACgkQs8o7QhFz NAU22w/8Dbjmx2YnDb3Gw0fv0Z0NfjItZhSV9/d/ccM6tBBedXZCzSNFDfqdhpVv qhuK11uaoTqH3gWk8NrObobjgYuzWIu3wGMmNzCGpFhbjWEQ6Qxv/DX1S7v5BMbh 0StBBmWfmtivcq2NsUJ0nsyQRPlELxHR1k+ZeJOvUCF4AdiiVEaRPre2roMVeyG8 6Pn2r6ICZf5vf8ehrWjvcwQp8mHdKWvHU5H+27wejKqAj4Fo9lARyIAfnLACOEwv LMEP5oYGXBrrUsKqdbgb2LQC4yqL0oUoBxVFNiMNMqjHPtSlRIYzNlj9nLdn7De7 SCWL82w6sOzfIowKz7UmiQXfRv73QqQIJCHiV+XFFgFVVn8RVd/MiOcAZodPO1LX rh1P/eIwWtBQf0sdusv1Wdb+LvVT2oORjMP1wYhdTnx7Hf0TomT3MwDGfPTjTMPE lwWDgNdxgnk9w4AEJNLgYkimF4FEIkmSoJG6XV7H8mtAo4v4/jsIe6F0g8u2MZdW ixC0kmGpbxZgLnh1tWy5DQYPxpVPQf8nV+njnz2MuoVSL5h8yLo5aj9w4lpgqvsN ljORiI+8bIfU4+aXFKwGbdqEItgk18PwcUOX+V9rLETFnKWXZDL4f0uAgGGdE9Tb dfBqT1R2k9to6nKM9oKsIUXSy3P58f4rditJ/3ko1NQ8T2I1q+Y= =avkB -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- --uLCwe7hS9j4NPytn-- From nobody Tue Sep 28 15:44:20 2021 X-Original-To: freebsd-mips@mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 37E8417DCF3F for ; OpenBSD has a much more active port. The closest ours has had to active maintenance has been from the CHERI project and our focus has not been on router platforms. We've been willing to accept hacks to make the platform semi-usable that other maintainers didn't like and only run on FPGA implementations of CPUS and qemu rather than on commercial hardware. -- Brooks --JSkcQAAxhB1h8DcT Content-Type: application/pgp-signature; name="signature.asc" -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- iQEcBAEBAgAGBQJhUzk1AAoJEKzQXbSebgfAyEoH/1QtJ8ET4/vuc/HvCwiYo6wG JJ7fkb5a8/CKbQgrelrCebA0Xn11UJN6wDGYw0/xN4UAGjAX5EvlDU2PVe9pKBnM TC5/OYl59AggS8q1tMPUv2PC8R6RAmLtKNqTV3d4FVyKKZQem3Wkk7pobdwoItu4 OeJ1pGMqnPsHzB1ViL40a+B9e5MBrYFBT3AzeoNSIQxZnoyrvS2tsYghO6bP1EQj TCpTdRpYn4tJmggp2TTryrl4JbZNdFcxvHLW9V1dOZjJUGzR92YE2fwZRdapRrcl oaVdgNCJytqjYdNXlIcVOjsMed/ciwHZnB2UkXi4NtQcOcR+XyV7pv6MRS1YbpM= =DRfL -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- --JSkcQAAxhB1h8DcT-- From nobody Sun Oct 3 08:50:05 2021 X-Original-To: mips@mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id B8DB917E18BE for ; Sun, 3 Oct 2021 08:50:05 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org (mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:3]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) key-exchange X25519 server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) server-digest SHA256 client-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) client-digest SHA256) (Client CN "mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org", Issuer "R3" (verified OK)) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 4HMcx94jc4z4hBN for ; Sun, 3 Oct 2021 08:50:05 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org (kenobi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::50:1d]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) key-exchange X25519 server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) server-digest SHA256) (Client did not present a certificate) by mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 7EE0522F72 for ; Sun, 3 Oct 2021 08:50:05 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org ([127.0.1.5]) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2) with ESMTP id 1938o5fQ048566 for ; Sun, 3 Oct 2021 08:50:05 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: (from www@localhost) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2/Submit) id 1938o5xH048565 for mips@FreeBSD.org; Sun, 3 Oct 2021 08:50:05 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) X-Authentication-Warning: kenobi.freebsd.org: www set sender to bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org using -f From: bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org To: mips@FreeBSD.org Subject: [Bug 221550] kern.bootfile returns only /kernel on mips64 (ERL) platform Date: Sun, 03 Oct 2021 08:50:05 +0000 X-Bugzilla-Reason: CC X-Bugzilla-Type: changed X-Bugzilla-Watch-Reason: None X-Bugzilla-Product: Base System X-Bugzilla-Component: kern X-Bugzilla-Version: CURRENT X-Bugzilla-Keywords: X-Bugzilla-Severity: Affects Some People X-Bugzilla-Who: pstef@freebsd.org X-Bugzilla-Status: Open X-Bugzilla-Resolution: X-Bugzilla-Priority: --- X-Bugzilla-Assigned-To: bugs@FreeBSD.org X-Bugzilla-Flags: mfc-stable12? mfc-stable11?
