But going back to the old kernel however should not make a difference. Try (/usr/ports/sysutiles/smartmontools and do a smartctl -x /dev/ad4 and see if the drive thinks it has any errors. Does atacontrol cap ad4 show any differences between the two kernels ? perhaps something new is enabled or disabled between versions like the power management ? ---Mike
