This is done with defined PREFIX and PKG_DBDIR variables. 'port test' command is recommended by the Porter's Handbook. Note that the port installs the usual way. When running 'port test' command in textproc/xhtml, the following output is generated indicating warnings from portlint and problems of installing. The output is shortened. textproc/xhtml +++++++++++++++ ===> Validating port with portlint looks fine. ===> flags: PREFIX=/home/chu/tmp/xhtml-1.0.20020801_4 NO_DEPENDS=yes PKG_DBDIR=/tmp/pkg_db.L49s4zhO -- ===> Cleaning workspace before port test ===> Cleaning for xhtml-1.0.20020801_4 ===> Extracting for xhtml-1.0.20020801_4 => MD5 Checksum OK for xhtml1-20020801.zip. => SHA256 Checksum OK for xhtml1-20020801.zip. ===> Patching for xhtml-1.0.20020801_4 /usr/bin/sed -e 's#@@DTDDIR@@#/home/chu/tmp/xhtml-1.0.20020801_4/share/xml/dtd/xhtml#' < /usr/ports/textproc/xhtml/files/catalog.xml > /home/chu/tmp/port_test_wrk/usr/ports/textproc/xhtml/work/xhtml1-20020801/catalog.xml ===> Configuring for xhtml-1.0.20020801_4 ===> Extracting for xhtml-1.0.20020801_4 => MD5 Checksum OK for xhtml1-20020801.zip. => SHA256 Checksum OK for xhtml1-20020801.zip. ===> Patching for xhtml-1.0.20020801_4 /usr/bin/sed -e 's#@@DTDDIR@@#/home/chu/tmp/xhtml-1.0.20020801_4/share/xml/dtd/xhtml#' < /usr/ports/textproc/xhtml/files/catalog.xml > /usr/ports/textproc/xhtml/work/xhtml1-20020801/catalog.xml ===> Configuring for xhtml-1.0.20020801_4 ===> Installing for xhtml-1.0.20020801_4 ===> Generating temporary packing list ===> Checking if textproc/xhtml already installed /usr/bin/sed -e 's|SGMLDECL.*||' /usr/ports/textproc/xhtml/work/xhtml1-20020801/DTD/xhtml.soc > /home/chu/tmp/xhtml-1.0.20020801_4/share/xml/dtd/xhtml/xhtml-dcl.soc /usr/local/bin/xmlcatmgr -sc /home/chu/tmp/xhtml-1.0.20020801_4/share/sgml/catalog.ports add CATALOG /home/chu/tmp/xhtml-1.0.20020801_4/share/xml/dtd/xhtml/xhtml-dcl.soc xmlcatmgr: failed to open `/home/chu/tmp/xhtml-1.0.20020801_4/share/sgml/catalog.ports': No such file or directory *** Error code 1 Stop in /usr/ports/textproc/xhtml. ===> Error running make install ===> Cleaning up
