If I were you I'd create an ext3 partion from LInux - this is ext2 with jounalling. fsck_ext2fs can synchronized the partition with it's journal, and ext3 can then be mounted as ext2 by FreeBSD. FreeBSD defaults to mounting ext2 synchronously which is slow, but reliable. On the Linux side ext3 is a good enough filesystem for everyday use.
