You nailed it.  After I sent that post off on it's
merry way to announcing my moronicity I realized I
hadn't chmoded the file after writing it.  LOL/blush. 
One other thing I had to do in the end is throw a
sleep 5 at the top to give mysql a chance to start
completely.
