I was already contemplating to donate my 5 MB 386/16 notebook to John
Dyson for development work on low-memory machines. :-))

Background: Bruce yesterday wrote me that the zone memory allocator
allocates 256 KB of static memory.  This is pretty (too) much on a 5
MB machine.
