Sure, but you can't use the Sun sources to develop a Java VM, even with the JRE. You can distrubute the SUN JRE along with any product, which is what the Java Activator for netscape essentially does now. If you want to modify netscape to use the JRE, that's completely acceptable. But, developing a new Java VM inside of netscape if you have access to Sun's sources using the 'educational' licensing is strictly prohibited, no mater how good your intentions are. And, you can develop stuff on FreeBSD legally using the JDK on FreeBSD, you just can bundle the JDK with your product.
