>Environment:
Cannot install so cannot produce "uname -a" output. Hardware is HP Pavilion 310n, 1.2 Mhz Celeron, 512 M memory, 40 Gig hard drive. What more information is needed?
>Description:
Boot from CD-ROM, select full-screen kernel config (remove all SCSI devices, all but NE2000 network adapters, and the PC-Card controller), begin a standard installation, create a slice containing all remaining space and set bootable (16 gigs), create mount points for root (15,364 M) and swap (512 M) (have also tried lots of other combinations), select Developer install and ports collection, select install from a FreeBSD CD, commit to the install and get the following error - every time:
Unable to make device node for /dev/X in /dev! The creation of filesystems will be aborted.
The only alternative at this poing is to exit from the Install and start over.
>How-To-Repeat:
On this computer, it repeats every time!
>Fix:
I've searched the bug reports, talked with other FreeBSD users (some quite experienced), and have found no reference to this kind of problem. HELP!
