A good test for a UNIX newbie, right? (I'm sure my VAX/FORTRAN skills would be useful, HAH). How has the following promise turned out? (More follows) http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/getmsg.cgi?fetch=2712551+2714465+/usr/local/www/db/text/1999/freebsd-questions/19990607.freebsd-questions I don't think so! I've tried two installs - one from /stand/sysinstall and one from the boot floppy. Off of /stand/sysinstall-- I choose Configure, Configure Packages, FTP. Running multi-user, assume that the network is already configured, Choose No Do the network config and choose OK and get Cannot resolve hostname ftp.freebsd.org and I can't get past this problem even if my network config is correct. Off the boot floppies for 3.2-RELEASE I choose configure, configure packages, select my media, connect and go and get Locating INDEX now reading package data from it I select KDE install I select only kdebase - 1.1.1 (kdelibs as a dependency) I click install and see kdebase 1.1.1 I click ok and get Adding packages /all/mesa-3.0.tgz (as a dependency) from ftp://ftp.freebsd.org/pub/freebsd/releases/i386 and it locks up. Here's the DEBUG output: DEBUG: Package check for iwidgets -3.0.0 returns failure " " " " iv-3.1 " " " " " " neXtaw -0.5.1 " " " " " " p5-ctk-0.4 " " o o o o AND SO ON o o o o DEBUG: Executing command '/stand/gunzip /tmp/.doc/doc.tmp' DEBUG: Command '/stand/gunzip < /stand/help/configure.hlp.gz> /tmp/.doc/doc.tmp' returns status of 0 DEBUG: package check for Mesa-3.0 returns failure DEBUG: Executing command 'ldconfig /usr/lib /usr/local/lib /usr/X11R6/lib' ldconfig: not found DEBUG: Command 'ldconfig /usr/lib /usr/local/lib /usr/X11R6/lib' returns status of 127 DEBUG: Executing command '/sbin/ldconfig -aout /usr/lib/compat/aout /usr/lib/aout /usr/X11R6/lib/aout /usr/local/lib/aout' ./sbin/ldconfig: not found DEBUG: Command '/sbin/ldconfig -aout /usr/lib/compat/aout /usr/lib/aout /usr/X11R6/lib/aout /usr/local/lib/aout' returns status of 127 DEBUG: mkdir (/usr/tmp) DEBUG: mkdir(/usr..) Resup; 3.2-R is just about out the door and sysinstall will be fixed up.
