how do you know it worked fine if ....

.... you didnīt find the file?

find / -name "named.stats" -print

If you donīt have one, in the options section, put a

directory "path";

named.stats goes there,  or wherever the default BIND dir is, ie, wherever 
BIND finds your db.zonefiles.
