Just to be clear, ZFS pools contain one or more VDEVs (Virtual devices). Each VDEV consists of one or more physical partitions and can be configured as a mirror, stripe, stripe with one parity, or stripe with 2 parity. ZFS does striping with no parity across all VDEVs in the pool. Thus with ZFS, if you lose a VDEV, you lose the whole pool. Hopefully that clears things up a bit. Cheers, Drew [snip]
