Run level 3, 5; I think your in the wrong OS.

This is just one of the ways of starting a X windows login.
The usual turn-off is to change the "on" to "off" rather than 
commenting the line.

But if you are running gnome you probably have 
gdm_enable="YES"
in rc.conf. Change it to "NO"
