It helps to remember that you can run tcpdump on the ppp interface :) The Handbook refers to the kernel option PROXYARP which is deprecated. The Handbook needs some updating, esp. in the supported hardware area. I'm going to tackle this soon. I'll comb the ppp stuff after that.
