Note that I'm not entirely sure that this is the correct fix
but it seems to do the job.

It's one of those "it worked for me" things.  It certainly
doesn't do any harm in the degenerate case where you have
your locale set to a derivative of en_US, but since I'm
a dumb Englishman in Texas (a scary proposition in of itself),
other languages are a mystery to me.

I speak two languages.. "English" and "Bad English" :)
