I suggest you increase the number of MAXUSERS in your kernel config file
if you are using a custom kernel, to say 40 or 80ish.  This is a more
permanent solution.  As a temporary (you need to do it each boot but is
equally as effective)  sysctl -w kern.maxfiles=abiggernumber.  do sysctl
kern.maxfiles to see what it currently is, this is the maximum number of
files that can be open at once.
