You'll need to install the driver for the card, which isn't in 2.2.7
by default (it is starting with 2.2.8 though).  You can get it and
instructions from http://www.freebsd.org/~wpaul/3Com/

As for X, you need to be a little more specific with your problem
before anyone can help with it..
