You can enable linux emulation (the "linuxulator") and can then run apps
from linux, though not ones wich use linux specific kernel stuff. I am
running Netscape 4.04 for linux 2.0, and it works fine. (on 2.2.5) 

As for compilation, I think it would be application dependant.
