It dies mysteriously before it gets that far, almost certainly due to 
the corruption of %edx after calling pipe().

I don't have it installed here at the moment, but installing it is 
*relatively* painless, so if nobody else has the wherewithal to do it 
before tomorrow, I might give it a try.
