I replied:
 % No, but you don't really need one since you don't need to lock the
 % files while editing.  All vipw adds to vi is to lock the passwd
 % database while you're editing; these locks are not supported with NIS.

But there is only one master file used for NIS, or has the FreeBSD
implementation changed that much?
