Ah HA!  Mystery solved.

I had a confusing message back a while ago about port 1.116.3 being
newer than 2.2.1.1 or something like that.  So I deleted those
packages.  Funny thing was there didn't seem to be anything that used
them at the time (at least I convinced myself there wasn't :).

I've manually installed the 1.116.3 versions and all is well once again.
