Greetings,

I have been = playing around=20 with FreeBSD 4.0 and 4.1.1.   I have noticed that some things = behave=20 differently under 4.1.1 than they do from 4.0.

First, If I = install 4.0=20 directly, everything works ok... no problems with this=20 release

But, if I = fresh install=20 4.1.1, the X server doesn't work (I get a garbled screen with many = multi-colored=20 pixels, even the VGA server doesn't work). Also, the console mouse = support=20 doesn't have the little pointer icon, it is merely a bunch of text = characters=20 which makes it hard to use.

I am using the = iso images=20 that I downloaded... I am relaltively sure that they are good and that = the image=20 on the CD is good. I get no errors during the install... those items = just don't=20 work.

Are these = known issues?=20 Are there any plans to use XFree 4.0.1 in an upcoming release? Will the = 4.2=20 release fix any of these, or am I the only one who has experienced = them? =20

My hardware is = a DELL=20 Optiplex GX110 (PIII - 500 MHZ)
128 MB=20 RAM
10 GB=20 HD
NVIDIA TNT2 = M64 (16 MB=20 RAM) video
ESS 1371 Sound = chipset
3com 3c905C = chip=20 set

I have had no = issues with=20 the kernel or anything like that.

Thanks!!!
