FreeBSD myBox.domain.net 4.1.1-RELEASE FreeBSD 4.1.1-RELEASE #0: Tue Sep 26

i386

cvsup using cvsup6.freebsd.org
cvsup -g -L 2 /usr/share/examples/cvsup/stable-supfile
-
NOTE: /usr/src/UPDATING has the following instructions...
To update from 4.0-RELEASE or later to the most current
        4.x-STABLE
        ----------
        make buildworld
        make buildkernel KERNEL=YOUR_KERNEL_HERE
        make installkernel KERNEL=YOUR_KERNEL_HERE
        reboot (in single user) [1]
        make installworld
        mergemaster
        reboot
Normally (as with 2 other boxes that worked fine) I would do; make world,
mergemaster, make new kernel and install, reboot. But this time I followed
the directions in /usr/src/UPDATING. Here's what happened ..

script /root/make-buildworld1 <-- in case something goes wrong the output
will be in that file.

start 4:50 PM 11/10/00 make buildworld error @ 6:42 PM 11/10/00 (see below)
==> Your Makefile has been rebuilt. <==
==> Please rerun the make command. <==
false
*** Error code 1

Stop in /usr/obj/usr/src/gnu/usr.bin/perl/perl/ext/DynaLoader.
*** Error code 1
-
now after this I again follow instructions and do ==> Please rerun the make
command. <== as the output above says.
after typing 'make' I get ...
usr/src/lib/libc/../libc/i386/sys/i386_clr_watch.c: In function
`i386_clr_watch':
/usr/src/lib/libc/../libc/i386/sys/i386_clr_watch.c:47: invalid lvalue in
assignment
*** Error code 1

Stop in /usr/src/lib/libc.
*** Error code 1

after trying 'make' a few times with the same results, I go make to what I
know has worked in the past= 'make world' this is what I get from 'make
world'

{standard input}: cc: cpp: Assembler messages:
Internal compiler error: program cc1 got fatal signal 4output pipe has been
closed{standard input}:0:

Warning: *** Error code 1

As you see nothing is working for me. Some solid advise is needed here to
get my 4.1.1-RELEASE FreeBSD 4.1.1-RELEASE #0: Tue Sep 26 00:46:59 GMT 2000
jkh@narf.osd.bsdi.com:/usr/src/sys/compile/GENERIC i386
 updated to Stable.

I just can't understand how my other 2 boxes were able to update/upgrade
from 4.1.1-release to 4.2-Beta but not this one.
