To update from 4.0-RELEASE or later to the most current 4.x-STABLE ---------- make buildworld make buildkernel KERNEL=YOUR_KERNEL_HERE make installkernel KERNEL=YOUR_KERNEL_HERE reboot (in single user) [1] make installworld mergemaster reboot Normally (as with 2 other boxes that worked fine) I would do; make world, mergemaster, make new kernel and install, reboot. But this time I followed the directions in /usr/src/UPDATING. Some solid advise is needed here to get my 4.1.1-RELEASE FreeBSD 4.1.1-RELEASE #0: Tue Sep 26 00:46:59 GMT 2000 jkh@narf.osd.bsdi.com:/usr/src/sys/compile/GENERIC i386 updated to Stable. I just can't understand how my other 2 boxes were able to update/upgrade from 4.1.1-release to 4.2-Beta but not this one.
