No. Xamp should work fine w/o requiring you to use OSS drivers. I have had xamp working (before I deleted it). x11amp always gave me headaches. Have ou tried adding the "conflicts" on your audio device? ex: device sb0 at isa? port 0x220 irq 5 drq 1 conflicts Also, check the order of: pnp 1 2 os enable port0 0x620 port1 0xa20 port2 0xe20 (kernel.conf) Because it does make a difference. I'm not sitting in front on my FBSD box, so I can't tell you mine off-hand. Also, which version of FBSD is it? Also, the "unable to get fragment size" error is usually a problem with the mp3 itself. You want to regrab/download that mp3 again.
