Apache is a daemon (a server process) which runs ``on top'' of your OS.

So FreeBSD is the OS and runs Apache as a webserver to service HTTP
requests. (For a Windows comparison, NT plus IIS.)

In /usr/ports/www/apache* we have a few apache ports which will download
and install apache for you, which you can then configure for your own
webserver needs.

Hope this clarifies a bit,
