The PR amd64/135040 tels problem abount having more than 4G memory could have problem with some device drivers. I have installed freebsd i386 version and have got the same problem. To check if the hard drive is in "fault", I have installed debian amd64 on this external drive and it works fine out of the box. This enclosure use Jmicron JM20329 but it seems only for sata to usb mode and not used in esata mode. Four other hard drive "WDC WD20EARS-00MVWB0 51.0AB51" are connected to 4 internal sata port which are managed by the same controler (intel H55) as the externel one, I use thoses without any problem. >How-To-Repeat: Use ahci kernel module with GENERIC kernel, hot plug external device on an H55 esata port. Create a whole disk slice and make one partition with bsdlabel. Then run newfs for this new partition with or without -U flag. pciconf output : hostb0@pci0:0:0:0: class=0x060000 card=0x50001458 chip=0x00408086 rev=0x18 hdr=0x00 vendor = 'Intel Corporation' class = bridge subclass = HOST-PCI pcib1@pci0:0:1:0: class=0x060400 card=0x50011458 chip=0x00418086 rev=0x18 hdr=0x01 vendor = 'Intel Corporation' class = bridge subclass = PCI-PCI vgapci0@pci0:0:2:0: class=0x030000 card=0xd0001458 chip=0x00428086 rev=0x18 hdr=0x00 vendor = 'Intel Corporation' class = display subclass = VGA none0@pci0:0:22:0: class=0x078000 card=0x3b641458 chip=0x3b648086 rev=0x06 hdr=0x00 vendor = 'Intel Corporation' class = simple comms uhci0@pci0:0:26:0: class=0x0c0300 card=0x50041458 chip=0x3b3b8086 rev=0x06 hdr=0x00 vendor = 'Intel Corporation' class = serial bus subclass = USB uhci1@pci0:0:26:1: class=0x0c0300 card=0x50041458 chip=0x3b3e8086 rev=0x06 hdr=0x00 vendor = 'Intel Corporation' class = serial bus subclass = USB uhci2@pci0:0:26:2: class=0x0c0300 card=0x50041458 chip=0x3b3f8086 rev=0x06 hdr=0x00 vendor = 'Intel Corporation' class = serial bus subclass = USB ehci0@pci0:0:26:7: class=0x0c0320 card=0x50061458 chip=0x3b3c8086 rev=0x06 hdr=0x00 vendor = 'Intel Corporation' class = serial bus subclass = USB pcib2@pci0:0:28:0: class=0x060400 card=0x50011458 chip=0x3b428086 rev=0x06 hdr=0x01 vendor = 'Intel Corporation' class = bridge subclass = PCI-PCI pcib3@pci0:0:28:1: class=0x060400 card=0x50011458 chip=0x3b448086 rev=0x06 hdr=0x01 vendor = 'Intel Corporation' class = bridge subclass = PCI-PCI uhci3@pci0:0:29:0: class=0x0c0300 card=0x50041458 chip=0x3b368086 rev=0x06 hdr=0x00 vendor = 'Intel Corporation' class = serial bus subclass = USB uhci4@pci0:0:29:1: class=0x0c0300 card=0x50041458 chip=0x3b378086 rev=0x06 hdr=0x00 vendor = 'Intel Corporation' class = serial bus subclass = USB uhci5@pci0:0:29:2: class=0x0c0300 card=0x50041458 chip=0x3b388086 rev=0x06 hdr=0x00 vendor = 'Intel Corporation' class = serial bus subclass = USB ehci1@pci0:0:29:7: class=0x0c0320 card=0x50061458 chip=0x3b348086 rev=0x06 hdr=0x00 vendor = 'Intel Corporation' class = serial bus subclass = USB pcib4@pci0:0:30:0: class=0x060401 card=0x50001458 chip=0x244e8086 rev=0xa6 hdr=0x01 vendor = 'Intel Corporation' device = '82801 Family (ICH2/3/4/5/6/7/8/9,63xxESB) Hub Interface to PCI Bridge' class = bridge subclass = PCI-PCI isab0@pci0:0:31:0: class=0x060100 card=0x50011458 chip=0x3b068086 rev=0x06 hdr=0x00 vendor = 'Intel Corporation' class = bridge subclass = PCI-ISA ahci1@pci0:0:31:2: class=0x010601 card=0xb0051458 chip=0x3b228086 rev=0x06 hdr=0x00 vendor = 'Intel Corporation' device = 'IBEX AHCI Controller(6Port) (Intel Q57 Express)' class = mass storage subclass = SATA none1@pci0:0:31:3: class=0x0c0500 card=0x50011458 chip=0x3b308086 rev=0x06 hdr=0x00 vendor = 'Intel Corporation' class = serial bus subclass = SMBus none2@pci0:1:0:0: class=0x0c0330 card=0x50071458 chip=0x01941033 rev=0x03 hdr=0x00 vendor = 'NEC Electronics Hong Kong' class = serial bus subclass = USB ahci0@pci0:2:0:0: class=0x010601 card=0xb0001458 chip=0x2363197b rev=0x02 hdr=0x00 vendor = 'JMicron Technology Corp.' device = 'JMicron JMB362/JMB363 AHCI Controller (JMB36X)' class = mass storage subclass = SATA atapci0@pci0:2:0:1: class=0x010185 card=0xb0001458 chip=0x2363197b rev=0x02 hdr=0x00 vendor = 'JMicron Technology Corp.' device = 'JMicron JMB362/JMB363 AHCI Controller (JMB36X)' class = mass storage subclass = ATA re0@pci0:3:0:0: class=0x020000 card=0xe0001458 chip=0x816810ec rev=0x06 hdr=0x00 vendor = 'Realtek Semiconductor' device = 'Gigabit Ethernet NIC(NDIS 6.0) (RTL8168/8111/8111c)' class = network subclass = ethernet rl0@pci0:4:2:0: class=0x020000 card=0x50323030 chip=0x813910ec rev=0x10 hdr=0x00 vendor = 'Realtek Semiconductor' device = 'Realtek RTL8139 Family PCI Fast Ethernet NIC (RTL-8139/8139C/8139D)' class = network subclass = ethernet fwohci0@pci0:4:7:0: class=0x0c0010 card=0x10001458 chip=0x8024104c rev=0x00 hdr=0x00 vendor = 'Texas Instruments (TI)' device = 'TSB43AB23 1394a-2000 OHCI PHY/link-layer Controller' class = serial bus subclass = FireWire Here dmesg output: Copyright (c) 1992-2011 The FreeBSD Project.
