Its possible it might be os related in the sense that freebsd does 
something different with the state of the machine on a reboot.  The 
thing is it works fine for everyone else.  Have you checked for a cmos 
update on compaq's site?   Could be a bug in the bios code that windows 
and linux don't trigger.
