Attempts to install 4.9-REL to 5.2.1-REL (and releases between) all fail at "Probing devices".  At this point the system locks up solidly, responding only the the reset button and the power switch.  Other non-FreeBSD OSs tried installed without problems (Windows 2000 and XP, Mandrake 9.1 and 10, NetBSD 1.6.2) so I don't believe it's a hardware issue.  With or without ACPI, standard or safe-mode - the result is the same.

However, FreeBSD itself runs - having installed a working 5.2-CURRENT disk in the system it boots and runs just fine.
