I wouldn't... I would rename "USE_NEWGCC" to "USE_GCC295"[*], as when GCC
3.0 hits, we'll be going thru all this again.  So please don't rip out
the framework.

[*] Note to all -- calling anything "new" in the system is stupid as it
doesn't stay new for long, and in fact becomes the old thing while being
misnamed.
