MACHINE_ARCH is the CPU architecture (eg mips or m68k) while MACHINE
is the computer architecture (eg arc, pmax, news, sgi -or- atari,
amiga, sun3, sun3x, apple, hp300). They happen to be the sam efor
i386 or alpha, but can be different for other ports.
