I thought it should be:

ifconfig_vr0="inet 192.168.42.1 netmask 0xffffff00 media 100baseTX"
                                                   ^^^^^
At least my (FreeBSD 3.2) vr(4) manpage says that mediaopt could be full-duplex
of half-duplex.
