If you ``enable pap'', you're asking the peer to authenticate themselves. Most ISPs won't do this, and the peer here seems to be no exception. Just remove the ``enable pap''. Pap is ``accept''ed by default. -- Brian Don't _EVER_ lose your sense of humour ! And I would like the link to be idle for at least two minutes before it is hung up automatically (to keep an application running which only transmits packets every 1,5 minutes). If I understand the i4b manual correctly, this is not possible at the moment. It would be nice to have an alternate algorithm for the auto hangup which allows for minimum idle times which are longer than the unit length. This algorithm could be something like the following: 1. generally: store the timestamp of the last received/ transmitted packet somewhere (this is probably already implemented) 2. start a timer which times out seconds before the (expected) end of the current unit 3. when this timeout occurs, check if both the timestamps of the last received/transmitted packet are older than idletime-incoming/idletime-outgoing, hangup the connection, else repeat step #2 If my above assumption is wrong (i.e. if this is already possible with i4b-00.90.00), please correct me and point me to a solution of this problem. The project is a kind of prototyping where an existing (slow and erroneous) solution on an NT box should be replaced by whatever thing is better. I would like to use FreeBSD for that purpose and am now thinking, if I should use some active card (that supports the requested protocolls by itself - even under FreeBSD) or a passive card in which case - as far as I found out - some work is necessary to make i4b supporting the protocols I need. In the latter case I somewhat have the feeling that there would be some people who would be happy to hear if i4b would be enhanced that way, but, to be honest, I have not the faintest idea about the dimensions of work involved, or if there would be difficulties to get documentation without which there is no chance to do such enhancements or the like. I would be glad to receive any suggestions concerning the passive/active choice as well as the possibility of an enhancement of i4b (which I of course would be willing to try to do if it is regarded worth it). I'm using user level PPP in some FreeBSD ISDN-ppp routers. It's *much* easier to set up than SPPP or PPPD, and has lots of features like dial/alive filters. I highly recommend it for ISDN applications rather than SPPP, for. eg AFAIK SPPP doesn't support VJ compression, etc. Bye Mico To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-isdn" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-isdn Fri Jul 21 4:40: 7 2000 Delivered-To: freebsd-isdn@freebsd.org Received: from hcshh.hcs.de (hcshh.hcs.de [194.123.40.1]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with SMTP id BE06237B912 for ; Fri, 21 Jul 2000 04:40:01 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from hm@hcs.de) Received: from hcswork.hcs.de([192.76.124.5]) (2969 bytes) by hcshh.hcs.de via sendmail with P:smtp/R:inet_hosts/T:smtp (sender: ) id for ; Fri, 21 Jul 2000 13:39:28 +0200 (CEST) (Smail-3.2.0.104 1998-Nov-20 #1 built 1998-Dec-11) Received: by hcswork.hcs.de (Postfix, from userid 200) id 84FB6484F; Fri, 21 Jul 2000 13:39:26 +0200 (METDST) Subject: Re: X.25 (X.31/b) support with i4b In-Reply-To: <200007202038.WAA13325@musashi.et.bocholt.fh-ge.de> from "gouders@et.bocholt.fh-gelsenkirchen.de" at "Jul 20, 0 10:38:28 pm" To: gouders@et.bocholt.fh-gelsenkirchen.de Date: Fri, 21 Jul 2000 13:39:26 +0200 (METDST) Cc: freebsd-isdn@FreeBSD.ORG, hank@musashi.et.bocholt.fh-ge.de Reply-To: hm@hcs.de Organization: HCS Hanseatischer Computerservice GmbH X-Mailer: ELM [version 2.4ME+ PL39 (25)] MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Content-Length: 1976 Message-Id: <20000721113926.84FB6484F@hcswork.hcs.de> From: hm@hcs.de (Hellmuth Michaelis) Sender: owner-freebsd-isdn@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk X-Loop: FreeBSD.org From the keyboard of gouders@et.bocholt.fh-gelsenkirchen.de: > I am working on a project that involves an X.25 connection over ISDN > using X.31/b (D-channel) - this situation is fixed, I'm not able to > modify it. > > I would like to use FreeBSD for that purpose and am now thinking, if I > should use some active card (that supports the requested protocolls by > itself - even under FreeBSD) or a passive card in which case > - as far as I found out - some work is necessary to make i4b > supporting the protocols I need. > > In the latter case I somewhat have the feeling that there would be > some people who would be happy to hear if i4b would be enhanced that > way, but, to be honest, I have not the faintest idea about the > dimensions of work involved, or if there would be difficulties to get > documentation without which there is no chance to do such enhancements > or the like. > > I would be glad to receive any suggestions concerning the > passive/active choice as well as the possibility of an enhancement of > i4b (which I of course would be willing to try to do if it is regarded > worth it). Both possibilities would be fine for me: in one case we get X.31 support (which basically means write an X.25 stack) in the other case we would get active card support (which basically means write a generic CAPI interface driver and at least one hardware interface driver for your choice of an active card). Both tasks are everything but trivial, in case you would ask me what to do i'd recommend to add CAPI support to i4b, it seems to be not that much work to do as in the X.25 stack case and it gets us a bit further than that. hellmuth -- Hellmuth Michaelis Tel +49 40 55 97 47-70 HCS Hanseatischer Computerservice GmbH Fax +49 40 55 97 47-77 Oldesloer Strasse 97-99 Mail hm [at] hcs.de D-22457 Hamburg WWW http://www.hcs.de To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-isdn" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-isdn Fri Jul 21 10: 8:37 2000 Delivered-To: freebsd-isdn@freebsd.org Received: from mail.kdt.de (mail.kdt.de [195.8.224.4]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 581D637B731 for ; Fri, 21 Jul 2000 10:08:32 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from is@beverly.kleinbus.org) Received: from beverly.kleinbus.org (jocelyn.sub-etha.wtal.de [213.240.145.121]) by mail.kdt.de (8.8.8/8.8.8) with ESMTP id TAA16632; Fri, 21 Jul 2000 19:08:23 +0200 Received: by beverly.kleinbus.org (Postfix, from userid 1501) id ED74B69; Fri, 21 Jul 2000 18:15:03 +0200 (MEST) Date: Fri, 21 Jul 2000 18:15:03 +0200 From: Ignatios Souvatzis To: Hellmuth Michaelis Cc: gouders@et.bocholt.fh-gelsenkirchen.de, freebsd-isdn@FreeBSD.ORG, hank@musashi.et.bocholt.fh-ge.de Subject: Re: X.25 (X.31/b) support with i4b Message-ID: <20000721181503.B270@beverly.kleinbus.org> References: <200007202038.WAA13325@musashi.et.bocholt.fh-ge.de> <20000721113926.84FB6484F@hcswork.hcs.de> Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii X-Mailer: Mutt 0.95.6i In-Reply-To: <20000721113926.84FB6484F@hcswork.hcs.de>; from Hellmuth Michaelis on Fri, Jul 21, 2000 at 01:39:26PM +0200 Sender: owner-freebsd-isdn@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk X-Loop: FreeBSD.org On Fri, Jul 21, 2000 at 01:39:26PM +0200, Hellmuth Michaelis wrote: > Both tasks are everything but trivial, in case you would ask me what to > do i'd recommend to add CAPI support to i4b, it seems to be not that much > work to do as in the X.25 stack case and it gets us a bit further than > that. Here's a possibility.. netgraph, of course :-) Helmuth has already prototyped a 'netgrap-ified' version of i4b where the 2 B channels are available as netgraph hooks. It shouldn't be too hard to add another hook that connects to the D channel using the 'packet data' discriminator. The rest of i4b could remain unchanged. Then you can write the X.25 stack as a separate netgraph node, which would be a useful thing to have more generally. This may be the easiest way to do things. What you would like to avoid is having to deal with modifying or recreating the device driver(s) for the various hardware; instead let i4b handle that. -Archie ___________________________________________________________________________ Archie Cobbs * Whistle Communications, Inc. * http://www.whistle.com To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-isdn" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-isdn Sat Jul 22 23:37:41 2000 Delivered-To: freebsd-isdn@freebsd.org Received: from rannoch.demon.co.uk (rannoch.demon.co.uk [158.152.110.117]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 1B8AB37B5BD for ; Sat, 22 Jul 2000 23:37:36 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from apbran@rannoch.demon.co.uk) Received: from localhost (apbran@localhost) by rannoch.demon.co.uk (8.9.3/8.9.3) with ESMTP id GAA16297 for ; Sun, 23 Jul 2000 06:35:04 +0100 Date: Sun, 23 Jul 2000 06:35:03 +0100 (BST) From: Paul Branston To: freebsd-isdn@freebsd.org Subject: connection problem Message-ID: MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: TEXT/PLAIN; charset=US-ASCII Sender: owner-freebsd-isdn@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk X-Loop: FreeBSD.org I am having trouble with the ISDN connection to my ISP.
