Someone said that in 3.2 `date` still only accepted 2 digit years (I
deleted the orginal post). A quick look at `man date` shows:

yy      Year in abbreviated form (e.g. 89 for 1989, 06 for 2006).

Therefore 3.2 is y2k compliant.
