Perhaps try something as simple as just setting up symbolic links?
Ex:
within my /usr

lrwxrwxrwx   1 root  wheel     8 May 16 17:30 obj -> /cvs/obj
lrwxr-xr-x   1 root  wheel     8 Feb  9  2000 src -> /cvs/src

And you could just as easily set up one for /usr/ports, too.
