I'm also a bit confused on exactly what you did, because pkgdb doesn't make any changes to the programs you can run. At this point, you need to start by making sure that programs that use pango are updated to use the new one. Something like "portupgrade -fr pango". This question would probably have been most appropriate for the freebsd-ports mailing list. Be well.
