Boot into single user mode( boot -s  at the boot prompt), if your console 
here is password protected then Step 2. 

Step 2: Grab a boot disk, load the kernel on the floppy. Mount the / 
partition of your harddrive and edit the master.passwd file by hand (make it 
blank). Boot into single user mode and the password should be blank. Use 
passwd to change it to whatever.
